The difference is Mike Joy does NASCAR on Fox, and SPEED is owned by Fox, so it is the same company. ESPN is owned by ABC, so I doubt Varsha contractually could do NHRA on a network for a different company. If he could, he would have definitely went to NBC to do F1, as that is his true passion.
It is funny to me that Mike Joy and Bob Varsha are mentioned together. There was a time back in the old Speedvision days when Mike Joy did the F1 broadcasts, then Fox got the NASCAR contract and Mike Joy went there opening the seat for Varsha for F1.
Yeah, I knew about Fox and Speed being one....just wishful thinking

Maybe we should start a petition to get Bob Varsha on ESPN's NHRA coverage....IF and only if he's completely shut out of Formula One broadcasting in the future. He had a tear in his eye and gave emotional delivery of his farewell to the F1 audience on the last broadcast. He's the real deal.
On the other hand, maybe Bob Frey could Skype his announcing in to the studio from home (or vacation)...I would be willing to overlook the inevitable technical glitches to hear his play-by-play. Mike Dunn can even stand in front of a green screen if necessary........
