Would a racer be allowed to enter both TF and TAD at the same race with same car?

Randy Goodwin, are you saying a TAD would have to make at least 1 qualifying pass, plus 4 rounds of racing, and if he wins, he would earn less than a TF who only made 1 attempt and idled down the track to be # 17 on the sheet?

Back in the 70's at a Div race we would run our BB/FC in AA/FC even if we got beat 1st rd. It paid more than if we won in alcohol.

I saw BB/FC run at OCIR in summer AA/FC races. They would usually Q and go a round or two, mainly cuz the track was hot & alky could hook up better.

Reminds me of an old NASCAR trick that may still be used today. Low buck small-team racers who knew their cars were not even close to being capable of a top 5 finish or even top 20 would strive just to get them qualified - then cut expenses by dropping out of the race after a lap or two. NASCAR requires you present a valid reason so they would all use one that's impossible to confirm or deny - "bad vibration".

40th place finish at Daytona pays right at $100,000. Others less but if you continued this ruse all season you could bank a substantial amount of money.

I think Ken Veney and Brad used to do it. I think I remember seeing them go a round or two from time to time.

I think Armstrong did it with that badass Satellite. He may have even tried adding nitrous to his blown alky motor to try and run with the fuel cars.

I have always heard that alky & nitrous don't mix, even tho a number of racers have tried it. Is it possible to mix the 2?

That is .02 off the all time best 5.12 for T/AD.
Actually, 5.109 is the best. When I was in the tower at Pomona doing color with Alan Reinhart and Mike English a number of years ago a 5.11 was run. I think it was Don St Arnaud?

A quick internet search revealed this:

"AI Overview

In 2004 at Pomona, Mitch Myers ran a 5.11 in a Top Alcohol Dragster, which was a record at the time. This record was backed up by another run of 5.109. Additionally, Megan Meyer, who previously held the third-quickest time in TAD history, also had a 5.11 run and was the second-fastest driver."

Megyn Meyer holds the record at 5.09/286 set in 2020. I don't know what the record is for a blown alcohol combination. Internet searching says "the quickest run in history for a supercharged alcohol burning dragster is 5.09 seconds, set by Megyn Meyer....." who of course was running an injected nitro car.

Sheesh...even AI can't figure out what Top Alcohol means.
