National Dragster goes to 24 issues a year

No more weekly issues, now twice a month.

I can only imagine how many times Wally has rolled over in his grave with all the "enhancements" that have been made...

I don't think it is a NHRA problem ... Print Media is dead. Not only is it dead, it is prohibitively expensive. The fact NHRA was still putting it out weekly until this point is impressive when you compare it to peer/industry publications. In fact, 24 issues annually is impressive compared to peer/industry publications.

That sucks. This year I signed up for it to be sent to me electronically so I can read it on the iPad. Where did you see this? Even though the news is old I still look forward to reading it. I also noticed last year we only got 47 issues instead of 48.

This pretty much sums it up

I'm surprised that they still put it out. They should move to entirely digital. At this point I wonder how much of a revunue stream it really is.

Not suprising. It contains very little readable content. Sit down with a copy of Drags Illustrated and see what I mean.

Some good points gave been made about the changing face of print media. I've said many times that Phil Burgess has done a great job adapting ND to the times. I don't read ND or any print mags for news or results. But ND has evolved into what I consider an excellent read. Photo coverage of national and divisional events, interviews, nostalgia, Hot Shots classic photos, etc. make it enjoyable IMO. Obviously they continue to feel the pinch, so while going to 24 issues stinks. I'll still support it in hopes that it sticks around.

so it's 24 One per event because there needs to be the free souvenir editions for the fans at the events as that's the beginning to them (hopefully) becoming a Member of the NHRA.

You are absolutely correct. As much as I love car magazines, I know they are fast going by the wayside and being replaced with the internet. Just wonder how this impacts their advertising income???

Well said. Phil's done a great job.

Doesn't surprise me. I bought the final print edition of Newsweek a couple weeks ago in the Portland airport. I wouldn't be surprised if ND goes away from print altogether.

I like the print edition also.

If we go to an all digital edition. We might as well call it the NHRA PRO Magazine.

Lets face it sportsman is filler in print editions, Its still is needed and read. But in a digital edition you won't need filler, So limited to no sportsman coverage.

Things like Past photos would most likely go away. Take a look a Photos of the Week in NHRA.com, IT takes them weeks to update a "Photo of the Week"

All digital is not the answer, although I believe it will become that.

Maybe Star Trek was right:

"You will be Assimilated, Resistance is Futile "

When I was young, it was every 2 weeks and LOADED with editorial. Now, it's just a worthless rag with stale news. Know why Phil still does his insider column online? Because the majority of people contributing to that column aren't members!

That insider column is awesome, I get a little edgy if I miss one or if its not updated in a while I can never wait to read it.

Mark, why so negative? I don't believe it's worthless, because, once again, it's not about the news anymore. For what it works out to per issue if you're a member, I think it's a very inexpensive, enjoyable read. Of course, that's my opinion. As was mentioned in another post, it's also a great place for sportsman racers to get ink that may never get elsewhere. Yeah, I miss the feeling of racing to the mailbox to see who won an event 2 weeks earlier. But is anything the same as it was 10, 20, or 50 years ago?

Sportsman racing will be gone only what the pro's do only 24 covers for the pro's at the expense of the sportsmen that make up 99% of the dues payers
