NAPA drops MRW. Is that good or bad for Capps?

Some people need to really get a clue. Did John take a dive in 2009 against Robert in Indy, possibly. A dive to help Ashley get her 1st win in Atlanta, maybe.

But to post s*** on the Castrol FB page of a current driver's sponsor is idiotic when it's your subjective opinion.

Furthermore, internet bravery is chickensh**.

Speaking as one who doesn't have a dog in the fight, and one that loves this sport like no other, be careful what you wish for......

This "internet bravery" is the reason why NAPA is leaving MWR. People went on their Facebook page and Twitter account and blasted them. I am willing to bet if what John did in 2009 happened today the backlash would have been similar to MWR. Now almost everyone has smartphones and a direct line to the sponsors and people aren't afraid to say what's on their mind.

Companies now basing multi-million dollar marketing decision on the Twittverse? We're in BIG trouble!

Used to be if the got "so-many" letters (over the crackpot base) they knew they had caused a stir - The twitverse has them all a-flutter 'cause they have no idea how many crackpots are in the base population. I suspect it's ALL the clowns who have to spew in 140 characters or less.

Let 'em post on a forum if they're serious:D

This can't be blamed on Twitter, Facebook, etc. (though I agree with the internet bravery sentiment). Social media is just a different medium, representative of the time we live in. If every single outcry on the internet was written on paper and mailed via USPS, NAPA would have done the exact same thing. I don't think they were looking for an out. They will incur a huge loss on goods that were already prepared for 2014 that will end up getting tossed. This was a scandal, the likes of which, NASCAR hasn't handled before. Precedent had been set between MWR and NAPA, with the fuel additive penalty at Daytona in 2007 (their first race out of the box), not to mention the very public personal problem he had of flipping his car over one night, walking home in his socks, and not answering his door until the next day (also 2007). Fan representation has been a part of sponsorships for as long as the big money has been involved, and the fan's word, this strong, be it through a keyboard, a pen, or an angry mob at NAPA's front door, was more than enough for them.

Find me a Castrol rep. close by and I'll say the same thing to their face.

If the same thing that MWR did had been done by a Hendriks or Penski team car I would bet the reaction by Nascar would have been totally different.

What about Peak they sponsor Clint Bowyer yet "The Machine (Danica) is their spokesperson who drives for SHR. I say they should jump too!

Here are a few more tidbits I picked up today. The guy who supposedly "made the call" for MWR at Richmond has been suspended indefinitely by NASCAR. Napa has said they have contacted no other teams and are out of NASCAR. They may do something in the future but not next year. 5 Hour Energy is not signed with MWR for 2014 and is evaluating their position. Without 5 Hour Boyer has no ride. MW told Truex he would not hold him to his contact (2 more years) if he decides he wants out to go elsewhere. RCR and JGR say they cannot start a fourth team before 2014 and so cannot be a home for NAPA next year. I have heard no mention of Hendrick anywhere in any of this talk.

Take this for what it's worth, but I manage a NAPA store here in Nebraska, and there has been no corporate communications indicating that NAPA is leaving NASCAR, just leaving MWR. They will be staying with MWR for the remainder of the season. However, (and you didn't hear it from me!;) there is some talk of moving the NAPA support to the Furniture Row team. It would sure be nice to see some big support for a team that has been busting its butt as a single car team from Colorado running with the big boys. It will be interesting to see how it all pans out, but I don't expect NAPA to be out of NASCAR next year.

Everything you have said is what I have heard also...except about JGR. Yesterday right before the Loudon race, Rusty Wallace said on tv that the main chatter around the garage area was Napa and Truex going to JGR. I would think that Rusty being a team owner and a racing commentator he might have some credibility. But, who knows! things can change overnight. Maybe, Ron Capps knows.:)

Hendrick is maxed out, same with Stewart Haas

Kiss my ass

Calm yourself, skippy.

I'm quite sure you wouldn't be mouthing off in such a manner if I was 2 feet in front of you. But as I expect, tell me how you would, I'm wrong and you don't back down from anything or anyone.

To bring this full circle in order to avoid a total hijacking of this thread, and as I originally posted, people need to be more objective, removing their subjective opinion before they go to a sponsor's FB page and start mouthing off. Even though I don't think the sponsors could give a damn about a couple of opinions, its simply reckless.

And skippy - I'd cherish the opportunity to have a candid discussion with you without the involvement of computers. I attend every H town race in April and LVMS race in October, including next month's. Please message me if you happen to be in town for either event....
