More silly season sh...

I have the solution..............keep everything just like it is.............. keep the cars going as fast as possible, 1000 ft for the fuel cars is awsome, who would have thought we would be seeing Top Fuel cars in the high 320s in 1000ft.

Its dramatic that the fuel cars have become so fast they have had to shorten the track by 320 ft for them .....so they get them stopped. These are the most awsome racing machines on Earth, they don't need to be slowed down, the people who build tune drive them need to be treated with the highest level of respect, That Is The Show.,,,,LF

I agree...Best post in the thread! Its that simple.

Now that would make starting line burn downs interesting-

You aren't going to see a burn-down in the fuel categories anymore ... No driver wants to hear it from his crew chief back in the trailer about all the heat that he put in the clutch, plus that lessens the driver's chances of winning the round by jacking the tune up. If you do see a burn-down, you are likely to see a fight at the top end.

How about changing the traction level at the first 8th depending on how much run off is on the other end, but standerlising on the remaining track length for max traction and safety, also. Having a seprate cup for sing?le car teams or doubling their points

I agree too, great post Larry.

This is sort of the same idea I had, but I was thinking more along limiting the amount of traction compound and slowing the cars down that way. Make the crew chiefs tune the cars down to race the surface. There'd be no point to running the cars on kill.
Watching drag racing on a track that doesn't have enough hook sucks, and that includes cars that run half as quick as the nitro cars!

If you think it sucks watching it try driving one on a poorly prepped track.

Anything that runs quick is a handfull on a bad track, I don't care if you are a 13.99 bracket guy or Jack Beckman, the track surface needs to be tip top, its not just a performance issue its a safety issue.

Trojan Horse Larry?

If so, you guys ran pretty damn quick down some junk in the day... The idea that every track has to be bowling alley smooth, laser level flat and sprayed to allow every team to be as good as the next is just crap, and you know it.

Are the days gone of driver and crewchief walking the track and knowing how to tune for it and drive it?
Seems like its been replaced with engineers setting for kill, puling the bow back and hoping for a slot-car-style run- that is killing this sport even more than anything Glendora has come up with in years....

Martin, it's pretty hard to reverse progress. Since racing began, the goal has been to get from A to B as quickly and as fast as possible. So in essence, it really is all about trying to make a perfect run. But now, they're MUCH closer to perfect than 10, 20, 30 etc. years ago. Years ago, it was the imperfections and the experimentation that contributed to the "show", not by design. All kinds of bodies, wings, wheelbases, engines (even multiple), etc. made for quite a show. But it was all part of the evolution that got us to a point where TF cars are running 330 MPH in 3.70 seconds in 1000 ft., which is really mind-boggling. I think we have to enjoy today's crazy performances and take advantage of the huge Nostalgia movement for a taste of days gone by.

So many ways to get from A to B quicker and faster are also outlawed... If the concept is to let the cat out of the bag, my suggestion is to first get rid of the bag... Safe driver compartment- after that, run what you brung. I'm sure someone will love 2.5 second passes...

Nobody told Warren that he couldn't add more spoiler if he needed more grip...

I not an aero engineer but I think that would cause more problems then it would solve. The current Pro Stock cars have very little in the way of down force and adding more spoiler would upset the already tricky balance they have.

I doubt that there are any Professional racers in the class that would have any problem figuring out solutions to those problems...

Point is- cars are going to become faster than the environment that they are supposed to be contained in. Then what happens, race fans? Simpler fix than cylinder sleeves, destroked cranks and weight adds would be make them go as fast as the track will handle and how long you want to keep your right foot down.

I have absolute confidence that MOST of the drivers that get to drive down the fly-paper quality race track (as opposed to the sportsmen racers that pretty much get the scraps AT THE SAME EVENT) will know that their car now has to perform within the elements presented, and not an artificially created environment that takes the driver out of the equasion other than when and how long their right foot is on the tin.

I wonder if after Gray's crash this year, if they cleaned up the mess and sent the next pair with no additional glue, if the guys still in the lanes would be voluntarally spinning the clevises up a turn or two?

I believe it was explained that adding too much rear spoiler, while increasing downforce in the back, could cause the front end to be light, which then causes more stability issues.

Yes- they know that. And have the ability to correct and compensate for that. And it may slow them down, which is kinda the point, all without making a bunch of parts obsolete or spending a fortune buying new ones...

Who wants to slow down PS cars?

Back to silly season---I just read that Neff may be out of the seat and will tune the boss's car next season. I didn't catch if someone else is driving or if the car's parked...
