We've been buying Sunoco Methanol by the drum here in So. Cal. for years through a local distributor.

Sorry, but the rumor of NHRA selling its Pro classes makes no sense at all. I could see maybe selling NHRA as a whole organization, but remember this is a not for profit organization and I'm not sure how that would take place. Wally might strike a bolt of lighting on that deal.
Jesse, you might see how NHRA tried to sell of the Professional Assets in 2007, the HD Partners deal was killed, but it could be done.

Michael & Gino; This is what I was referring to. ( Activation of the sponsorship will include a comprehensive package of television spots, digital presence, on-site visibility and NHRA-themed consumer and retail promotions designed to increase attendance and television viewership ). Those of us that race already know about the Drag Races. It's not going to attract us to the race. Now the family that stops in at a Sunoco station and notices the merchandising MAY pencil in there calendars to go to the track and check it out. I have used Sunoco or Cam II since the late 70's.
But with no street corner stations currently west of the Mississippi, that marketing will be limited. I understand Sunoco is planning on adding 1,000 retail stations in the future. But that equals out to 41 new stations per state based on occupying the states with no Sunoco representation. I personally hope they go nationwide, when I'm living in Phoenix I really miss using Sunoco.
In the end Any new sponsor is better than none. I'm glad Sunoco is stepping up to the plate.

Yeah, it was the shittier tasting version of Gatorade.
Come to think of it.... it still is!
I knew of it, but didn't try it until they became a sponsor. Now, whenever I purchase sports drinks it is Powerade.

hope a sale like that never happens. I want to go to the races not the circus. and that's what you will have if the pro classes split from NHRA. commercialism and cheap thrills. if you like those bozo's that launch tee shirts into the crowd. well , you will get a lot more of that and a lot less serious racing.

Basically Sunoco is replacing VP as the official fuel of NHRA. No big deal, was anyone worried about finding a VP station?
Exactly. I've never seen a VP station. If Sunoco does do some store displays and such that it is a bonus.

There's a VP station on Andrews Ave., in Ft Lauderdale.
Used to get Sunoco gas in Oklahoma when I was kid. Definitely west of the Missippi in those days. Kept my 13:1 street motor alive with their 100 octane "pump" gas.
Sunoco used to be based in Okla. If my memory serves me correctly it was based inTulsa. Was marketed under the DX Sunray logo and had stations all over Okla..
