Marty Reid Gone from ESPN

Just heard Marty was released by ESPN in part for calling wrong driver winner with a lap to go last week during Nationwide race.

A gaffe, but a minor one at best....Reid got fired for that?? Whoever fired him must not have liked him in the first place.

Isn't ESPN losing NASCAR at the end of the season anyway? Marty has his own production company (how do you think he got the NHRA announcing gig?) ... He will land on his feet and be just fine.

Let me just say in Marty's defense, he has worked for ESPN since 1982. He used to do IHRA Drag Racing in the early 80's. He's the only announcer to have called IHRA, NHRA, NASCAR Sprint Cup, NASCAR Nationwide, NASCAR Camping World Trucks, and the IndyCar Series. He also did the SCORE Off Road Trucks on ESPN that I remember However, he has also had the unfortunate task of being on the microphone during Geoff Bodine's terrible truck accident at Daytona in 2000, Tony Ropers fatal crash at Texas in 2000 and during the deaths of Darrell Russell in 2004, and Dan Wheldon in 2011. They show the fail compilations and point fingers and laugh, but nobody wants to watch how delicately he handled the dark side of motorsports either.

Compaired to me in my day to day conversations, Marty was great... 'bout the same as listening to Mike Dunn on Friday nights... Both k'dubs & mouse did commercials for Cox when they were young... hours to get 25 seconds for a sixty second spot...

and yea... I miss Paul Paige

If ESPN fires people for making mistakes, calling people the wrong names, etc, how the tell did we get stuck with Paul Page for all those years?
