Mac Attack!

Interesting comments from Cory about working with Purdue Univ. on aerodynamics in front of the injector and behind the driver. There's gotta be a lot of dirty air in that area - I'd love to know what they are doing!
Pretty sure the response from DSR would be that is a "need to know" issue
and you don't need to know! - :D

The driver shield added after the Darrell Russell incident looks like a scoop designed to slow the car down. I bet it's something in that area...

I remember a bunch of people moaning that Cory was hamstrung with the crew chief situation. I never had a doubt and had full faith in Todd and Phil.
I knew and said they were gonna be good and look at them.

This the best car Cory has ever had. Todd and Phil + that crew = awesome.
Championship contenders!

Well seeing as Cory said it laid over at 900 feet that thing wouldn't have made the 1320. They just keep shortening the wicks on these things. Of note, that 1,000 foot time is quicker than Doug Kalitta's 4.420 pass. His was 3.758. Tony Schumacher was 3.759 on his 4.428 record.

From Joliet 2004 -
Doug Kalitta's incremental times: 60ft-0.852 sec., 330ft-2.120, 660ft-3.004/283.73mph, 1,000ft-3.758 1320ft - 4.420 328.22

From Pomona 2006 -
Tony Schumacher's incremental times: 60ft-0.841 sec., 330ft-2.114, 660ft-3.003/283.19mph, 1,000ft-3.759 1320ft- 4.428 327.98

Tonight -
Cory McClenathan's incremental times: 60ft-0.828 sec., 330ft-2.122, 660ft-3.007/284.87 mph, 1,000ft- 3.752 324.75

Very close to being only the 2nd sub 3 second half track time. (Gary Scelzi Oct. 31st, 1999)

I would bet that it is something in body shape ahead of driver's compartment.
We were in Penske and Ganassi garages before the 500 and were told that very subtle tweaks are the reason their cars are so superior. Fit and finish of body panels is incredible and Indycars are only running 230 mph.
This could be very interesting - maybe Shoe could jump in and give us the details! - ;)

The only thing keeping me even mildly interested in NHRA drag racing anymore is seeing CMac get his long overdue first title. This is his best shot at winning it since he drove the McDonalds car for Gibbs.

Duuuuuuuuuuuuh

At 1320 that probably would have been 335+

With 320' less to stop.

Is EVERYONE insane around here??????????????????????????:eek::confused:

Obviously, that was sarcasm. The point is........ALL THESE CARS WILL HAVE TO BE SLOWED DOWN EVENTUALLY. Crew chiefs have been pretty smart over the years (more sarcasm). When the object of the game is to faster and quicker than everybody else, they will always find a way to go quicker and faster. Anyone who thinks the speeds are going to stagnate because of 1000feet hasn't been paying attention to history. NASCAR and INDYCAR have both had to deal with this issue. Why do we think that we're immune to it? The NHRA at one time tried to stay ahead of the curve but then got enamored in the hunt for 300mph and has done what to retard the increase of speed since making them change rear end gear ratios back around 1990? Yes, it's a good thing Cory had that extra 320 feet to slow down, especially at that track. It will be even better when they have another 340 feet (320+340=660') See how many people pay attention then. Oh yeah, as always now.....blast away.
