Sure hope Larry gets a ride next year. He's too good to be sidelined. Personally, I'd like to see him race in the Kalitta camp. I think it would be a good fit for him. Any place he goes though, he'll surely be an asset.

i would like to see him start his own team. the continual musical chairs game always leaves a good driver without a ride and then the race results end up being to predictable because there are only a few teams that have what it takes to run the entire season at the top.

larry dixon, IMO, is one personality in our sport that is not known as much
outside of motorsports as say john force is, but within the fraternity i don't
think there is a more recognized and respected person; which leads me to
believe that if he were to start his own team there will be at least automotive
related sponsors that will not hesitate to give him serious consideration.

I'm with you Bruce! It seems everytime someomne loses a ride, people want to see them end up at one of the mega teams. I'd be much more excited to see 1. New talent brought into the ranks 2. Entirely new teams and sponsors come in.

Why did Miller leave the sport? The NHRA fans are like the prime target audience for beer. If Miller came back sales with the NHRA crowd would blow up. Miller has big bucks too.

Miller and Dixon go together like Bud and Bernstein. Instant fan favorite.

Could it be that MillerCoors (now the name of the company) has well over 40 brands. It brings back that old quote "It'll never fit on the album cover." They would be competing against themselves.

With some I guess the class will not take a popularity hit without Larry. But for me it really will.

Me too.

Miller Leaving Prudhomme - MotorRacingNetwork.com

"Jackie Woodward, Miller’s vice president of programming, media and marketing assets, said this was a difficult but necessary decision as the company strives to make the most effective use of its marketing expenditures."

Jackie should know that I've been making the most effective use of my beer money ever since they left DPR... by drinking Sam Adams :o

Why did Miller leave the sport?

Simple. When I found out that Miller and Budweiser were bought out by foreign corporations I knew they would kill the drag racing programs.

And yet, they sponsor NASCRAP car which is many times more expensive to fund than a top fuel car. Go figure.

Samuel, I know nothing about NASCAR at all, but I found it hard to believe that a NASCAR race car is more expensive to build than a top fuel dragster?

Everybody watches Nascar, and the Daytona 500 gets international coverage.
Nobody watches the NHRA anymore, especially after 1000'. It's impossible to watch on TV and be impressed by what you see.
The beer companies aren't interested anymore, and after looking at the grandstands, neither are the fans.

Here we go again, another opportunity for you to bring in the 1000ft talk. Well, I got news for you buddy - Miller were gone before the 1000ft deal came into play. Looking at the grandstands of the fall Vegas race, the Maple Grove crowd and a few others, I think the fans are still interested. I for one am still interested. Oh, and I don't watch Nascar - so I guess not everybody watches that crap. 1000ft TF > Nascar ;)

Even with NASCAR taking a drop in viewership and attendance, it still draws more of an audience- and public recognition- than drag racing. We all know this- there is no argument.

Even with NASCAR's "****e" numbers Sam, the people that would be investing money in ONE of the two are going to pick the one with the most return for their investment.

Keep representing that isolationist attitude regarding sponsors Samuel- that will really help drag racing become the big time sport you hope it will become...

Quite simply, nhra must get a new, younger fanbase. there sure are lots of
j/offs drifting, racing tricked ricers. i dont think the even know what an ajpe
motor is...
the answer who knows. But, 2000 free tickets to gearheads who are NOT
NHRA fans will hook a whole new generation of fans. Even draw 25 people from the free ticket pool, and let them stand in the owners box, give em a go pro and tell em to video the pass for the team!

After they flush their panties down the nearest toilet, they'll be on their
cells saying "Dude, you'll never beleive what I just experienced! It was mega-knarley,bra. Next year lets bring Spicoli, Bill, Ted, Harold, Kumar and
ALL the dudes from our drifting club. Hell, lets get Mr. Hand out here. We can push him up real close to a Kalitta or Lagana warmup! RADICAL!!!

You dont make money sitting still. You make money filling seats with fresh
faces. THEY WILL COME BACK... unless they watch Judge Judy or Jeporday
{SP} every single looser day...

I think you get my drift... no pun intended.;)

Alan and Alex Baca... what say you???

Last thing I think any of us want to see is an increase of mindless lemmings, of any age, coming around to ruin a good day of racing. And putting them in the "owner's box" just to woo them over, when dedicated fans of the sport who have been coming for decades through thick and thin will probably never get that opportunity, just because we "need to see a younger face" in the crowd? Please...

How about putting Chris Cook, Mike Veskovich, George Civiletto, Joe Sherwood and the like in a VIP situation because they have been putting up with the **** for years and STILL buy a ticket?

Screw the newbies- this sport will never die (Unless your version of the sport only involves exotic fuels, gigantic haulers and hospitality tents...). Either they get it and keep coming, or they don't and it wont be anyone's loss..

IHRA will never die, and your house will NEVER go down in value.
As for the guys here, I assume they enjoy the sport and the differing
opinions, just like ours. If not they are stupid, and I, personally, do not
feel the mods are stupid...
Agree to disagree is fine. You want no change in order to bring in a new
type of fan, fine. Cool by me. I will give NHRA this...they NEVER stooped
to the INDYCAR level by putting 34 cars on a 1.5 mile highbanked oval...

Dan Wheldon, Champion, Father, Husband and one hell of a good guy.
May you RIP.
