Knowles Beginning to Turn Corner on Rough Season

May 12, 2008 - Grand Junction, CO – To say it has been an up and down season for Pro Mod Racer, Mike Knowles, would be more than a bit lopsided. To tell the truth it's almost been all down, but things are beginning to look up for Veteran Racer, Mike Knowles.

After missing the first race of the Jegs Pro Mod Challenge season because his new McAmis Corvette was crashed in early testing by a substitute driver; Knowles rebounded quickly with a back-up car but success has been hard to come by. Following two DNQ's Knowles and his team took some time for pre-race testing before the recently completed NHRA St. Louis event. The testing paid off with Knowles making his first appearance in eliminations this season only to go down in the first round.

"We've been struggling with the Camaro trying to find out what she wants. At St. Louis we made some small progress but, its time to bring the Vette back out and hopefully take what we've learned with the Camaro and use it on the Vette," said Knowles. Knowles is referring to his newly repaired "Blown Money" 63' Corvette which was recently repaired at Tim McAmis' Hawk Point, Mo facility.

Knowles along with his crew stayed after the St. Louis event to test their new ride. Chassis builder, Tim McAmis, and engine builder Mike Janis stayed with the Knowles team for the Monday test session. After making some short hits Knowles was pleased with the results.

"Exciting! That's what this car is," said an excited Knowles. "It responds to the changes you throw at it and I feel very comfortable in it. I just want to thank Tim(McAmis) and his guys for getting the car back to us so fast and for staying to help us shake her down. I'd also like to thank Mike Janis and his son for their help on Monday. I think things are starting to turn the corner for us and I can't wait for Bristol."

Next up for the Knowles Racing Team is the O'Reily NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, TN on May 15th-18th.
