Tire issues DNQ Knowles Racing in Houston

March 29, 2008 - Houston, TX – In order to stay in the JEGS Pro Mod Challenge points chase, Team Owner and Driver, Mike Knowles, took a big risk bringing a used car to the Houston event. With their new McAmis car at TMRC for repairs Knowles felt it imperative that he not miss this race.

"After missing Gainesville, we needed to be here. There are plenty of strong cars out here with great teams and if we want to stay in the points hunt we needed to be here," said Knowles

Knowles' first time behind the wheel of his new ride was during Friday's first qualifying session. When Knowles let out the clutch on his Camaro, the car headed for the center line causing Knowles to lift. On his second pass the car did the same thing but more violently. For Saturday's final qualifying attempt the team replaced the rear tires with an older used set. The car left hard and straight, but went into tire shake just after the 60ft mark.

"We got a little behind on the tune up after the first two runs. When you're under the gun to make it to a race in a car new to your team, these things happen. That's racing. My guys worked their tails off to get this car together for this race. I'm so proud of them," said Knowles. "Dan and his guys got this car prepared in record time, but not having any on track time before the event bit us. We tried to get a new set of tires balanced, but one tire was way out. We tried another tire but the car didn't like the new tires."

Knowles plans on running the Camaro through the St. Louis race until his new "Blown Money" 63' Corvette is repaired.
