Karamesines Crew Incident

say...maybe it would be safer if they didn't use those electric starters and just pushed the nitro cars with trucks to get them started?

:D

Maybe Janet Napolitano and the Department of Homeland Security should appoint a task force to investigate what exactly happened. And after spending a couple billion dollars they may actually report what really happened. Like that the crew member working the squirt bottle with his right hand forgot to put the ground wires back on the coils because you can see them hanging in his left hand as he works the injector. He admitted it to Dave Reiff and, while he's glad no one was seriously hurt, looked pretty shook up knowing it could have been a lot worse. Have to admire him for his honesty.

All kidding aside, Dennis and I are good friends. I'm glad he's OK.

....how did the car ignite & lurch forward.....
There are three basic ways to start a Nitro motor, all involve spinning the engine before pulling off the magneto grounding wires...
In this case because Tim had problems with the initial start, he didn't put the grounds back on before he went to "clear" it ...
He had his hand on the injector blades when it lit and the high RPM moved the car...

At the very least, make the guys that start the engine and stand in front of the car wear helmets.

There doesn't seem to be many safety rules for the starting line. can u imagine if that would've happen in a funnycar and besides, they still allow crewman to play 'bull fighter' with the pro stock cars during burnouts.

All I saw was the video and I'm 2500 miles away.. It looked like they were behind a little because the other 2 cars had already done their burnouts, so they probably got a little rushed and just messed up.. It doesn't take much of a screwup to get real ugly with nitro... Example: in order to get the engine to make enough horsepower to do a burnout.....you set the butterflies with a "very small gauge block:rolleyes::rolleyes:", so any amount of pressure on the linkage will make a huge difference on ignition

I believe Dennis is from California....if you are ok Facebook, type in his name and his profile will come up!

Dennis drives a nostalgia Funny Car, Nitro Cowboy. The crew chief took full responsibility and explained well what happened. Hard lesson learned but luckily it appears that Dennis will be okay.

That does it, helmets for everyone! :D

Atleast the fans in the stand from mid track where the cars toos out rods and other parts...lol

Mike......the 'Booze it an Lose it" sign is some thing the owners of the strip and the oval and many other NC tracks do as a service to the state.. it is part of the states safety advertising program..but from what i know about it many sports facilitys do it at no charge to the state.... like a public service announcement...

Dang. If he all got out of that incident was some bruises, he needs to go buy a lottery ticket.
He got tossed a long way and it looked like his head bounced off the pavement.
Very lucky indeed. Thank goodness.
He must be living right.

Jeeze that was scary to watch. Who's the crew guy back by the left slick who got an earful of 4000 hp? Glad everyone's OK. Hopefully it never happens again, and maybe they can have some light-hearted ribbing about it one day
