It never fails.....

nothing in Bakersfield is gunna get the same crowd as something in Pomona or Vegas. Bakersfield is just too isolated for a day trip (relatively speaking) and there is little to do there for any non-fan if you are staying there...

it would be very interesting to compare the crowds for a full-boat nostalgia event and a "big show" event both held at Pomona...

Pouring rain at the March Meet Saturday morning this year and people are 20 deep at the ticket booths at 7am.

Mike, just asking but have you been to either one?

Describe Huge? You saying the March meet and CHRR get the same crowds as Pomona or Vegas?

There are grandstands for 5,000 or so people at Bakersfield (7500 at most), so it would be nearly impossible to get a Vegas or Pomona crowd in there. It is a small place, and when it gets full it is very easy for people to start over-estimating the crowd size. That being said ... It does get full and it is a great crowd and a great event! So many nitro cars ....

Having done both Phoenix and the March Meet ... I would choose the March Meet every time.

HUGE............ as in standing room only all day everyday, more fuel cars at one event than the Big Show has in 5 events combined, and yes all you're big show hero's past, present, and future competing or just hanging out .

Huge midway area where you can actualy buy the parts you need on the spot, huge swap meet( buy more rare stuff), Partys and BBQ's at the track, and all over town.

Chuck and Del Worshams' Megarita machine.

All Concrete 1/4 mile and all the racing in the 1/4 mile, the most fierce side by side 1/4 mile drag racing in the known world.

Shall I continue?

All nostalgia events pale in comparison to the March Meet and the CHRR.

With 4 days of racing already, the March Meet is busting at the seams with the amount of cars and spectators. I don't think it can grow anymore.

If I were to offer a suggestion to anyone who had to pick between the two, I'd say the Reunion. Better weather that time of year and the racing seems better too. From a competitor's stand point, less stressful and more track time for us. Not to mention the Cacklefest is a great show.

The NHRA big show is as stale as week old bread. Just like I can't watch the movie Casablanca every other weekend, I can't watch NHRA anymore.

I've stated this before, NHRA over the past few years is suffering from a Icarus Paradox in which it flew to great heights that it is now crashing to the ground.

And if the big show goes away, we will still be looking forward to racing our car at the next event as the big show has nothing to do with us and how we run our car.

Standing Room at Famoso, what is that 5-6,000? Lets see 30+ FC's ok, 12-14 N/TF is 5 times what an NHRA race gets? You really are living in your own world! Some of you in the Nostalgia world suffer from Mass delusion.

Joe, I wont guess a number but I will say this about the reunion and MM, the fire Marshall has closed the gates on Saturday at both events.

me "Mike"? ya, it's been a few years, but I've been, loved it too...I was just trying to say it isn't fair to compare the attendance to an event on the far side of Bakersfield with events in (basically) LA and Las Vegas

Far side of Bakersfield is being generous LOL. I dropped off Tehachapi into Bakersfield and I was like woo-hoo I am here ... Little did I know it was still an hour to the Patch! That was a pretty fun and easy drive from Vegas though ...

I'd say that your attendance guess is way light. More like 5 to 6 times those numbers.

Something else to consider is the fact that the line for RV parking starts more than a month ahead of time. Don't be so quick to discount these events.

Famoso has 30,000 seats? Sure doesn't look it on Bangshift...

You keep talking about seating...go to an event and see how many people are in the stands on both sides of the track, PLUS the RV area and then the 4-5 deep along the fence either standing or on the god damn golf carts...

Okay I admit it, Nostalgia racing is God! NHRA should take Darr Hawthorne's advice and eliminate the Current TF/FC classes and replace them with the Nostalgia cars! Since you all think they re the best thing to hit Drag racing since Christ died!

To the contrary, I wished NHRA kept their noses out of nostalgia racing. Ever since they got involved the cost has gone up and participation has gone down. Even in the funny car ranks the number of cars aren't going to many of the other events held.

Joe, I think you need to realize that many people are becoming disalusionated with the NHRA big show and are finding other forms of drag racing more satisfying. Do I dare say that your in a state of denial?

Joe, having worked the reunion and mm for the past 20 years the biggest number I've heard on a Saturday was 20,000. Don't know how accurate that number was but the place was packed. Bakersfield doesn't have seating for anywhere near that but when you count all the people in the motor homes and the people that aren't in seats it's easy to figure 20 grand.

Yes, I stand by what I say as it affects not just the open classes event the index racer too. You are also right with your statement.

Can both statements be right or does it have to be one or the other?

In the open classes it is the owners that help give NHRA a reason to add on costs that once again trickle down to the index/bracket guys......

You know, the old saying of "sh*t runs down hill".....

Where in the f*ck did I say any of that...I am only speaking to the seating crap you are going on about...
