........that hunt elk, wednesday was opening day here in Idaho, which is known for it's elk hunting, one of the guys in our group got a nice 5x5 on opening day

I lived in Oregon for 10 years. Sure miss the eastern mule deer hunts outside of Burns and the elk hunts over in the central coast range.

Nice Steve! How did you fare? I still do some pheasant hunting a couple times a year when we make it over to the folks place which is on the Idaho/Oregon border. I did a lot more when I was a kid growing up.

Nice to put an animal in the freezer on opening day!!
I am going to see if I can get some time in for the modern season here in Washington this year. Last year I only was able to make it out one weekend and two weekdays. I have a herd staked out behind my parents property though and I might not have to go far....hopefully!

I got drawn to be able to hunt for elk from archery season all the way through muzzle loader season. It should be alot of fun this year.

Steve I usually hunt for elk in Soda Springs area, there are some big animals over there.

I am so envious!! I love the hunting here in Michigan but when you have an Elk heard of less than 900 your chances of drawing a permit are basically ... zero.

No I didn't put in for one this year. The cost is $100.00 is your drawn. I also believe you have to take a mandatory class prior to your hunt but Im not sure of that cost.
