Nobody is saying the world is over!
The world doesn't revolve around drag racing they are traditionalist and want to keep the integrity of the sport like most of the drivers you saw at top end interviews but one thing is in agreement this was the best solution till they sort it out.
I can deal with it as long as it doesn't become a permanent thing.
Remember TV can be deceiving. I will go to Sonoma and see it first hand but I can tell you already I want to see them go back to the traditional 1320.

Bob, I'm on your wagon.:cool::D

Chris I'm not saying it's over and i think for now it will help but it's not the only fix this sport needs. The teams aren't saving much buy cutting back 320'. This can't be a permanent fix and the sport can't afford to fall into a trap and nothing else gets done. NHRA has been throwing it under the rug for the last few years now. we've got to keep the pressure on or nothing will get done.

Did you watch the show? Every single person interviewed on the show said this was a great first step, every single person said they need to slow the cars down, almost everybody said they wanted to go back to 1320', and everybody had a million ways to solve it. They set up a blue ribbon panel that was filled with people who were for it and ag'in it, and some of the top people in the sport.

The prompt moves by NHRA, the wall-to-wall support for it, and the inclusion of some of the best and brightest (including critics) on the panel are HUGE steps forward. I'm giving them benefit of the doubt. I think all this negativity (including the title of this thread) is the typical routine of Maters throwing the baby out with the bathwater.

not like my opinion matters but i won't go to another 1000 ft race. not the same i don't care if bob frey or alan( respect them both) hype it up. i was at 2 days of qualifying and i can tell the difference when they are coming. Most of the drivers were driving it further than a 1000 anyway. i was standing at the 1320 mark and most didn't pop the shots till there anyway.

Well I'm with Rex, I think it was GREAT. I would much rather see two cars under power at the 1K, then to see one or none under power at 1320'.

As far as slowing the cars down, this has done it, (not by much). Seems like any other restrictions nhra tries just causes more engine damage.

How can anyone be against giving 320 MORE shut down??? It will keep from losing the tracks that can't lengthen. And goodness knows we don't need to lose any more tracks.

To me, 1K is A-OK

Well said Paul!

it only makes the strongest teams stronger, team $humacher 1 and 2 in top fule and all 4 f/c in. bring back the 1320!

Jeff, if you can, put your hatred of DSR aside for one second.
Now, go look at the current points standing for F/C.
How are DSR F/C's strong?

Nice and convenient how you overlook JFR F/C's.
JFR is a low-budget organization?

Yo, megadeth, I am scheduled to be in Fremont the last weekend of this month. I guess I am gonna go to Sonoma.
You know that "family section" at 1200 feet? I loved sitting there.
Remember how they started charging to sit there? I wonder if that is still going to happen now that it is obsolete and irrelavent?

I haven't watched 1000' racing yet. I almost don't want to.

I believe that 1000' is here to stay, iIf that is the case, I am done with the NHRA, plain and simple.

I asked my Dad what he thought of 1000 foot racing. He said " NHRA is has gone to centipede racing". What? He said " yeah centipede racing, 1000 feet. Ain't that how many feet centipede's have? Ha Ha.":D

I'm sure all those with preconceived ideas about 1,000 ft. racing were not disapointed.
You just have to adjust just like the drivers do.
I agree the other things tried seemed to make things worse.
Safety is paramount to anything else.
My views don't count because what does a Drag Racing Addict know about anything anyway.

1,000 feet may not be the final answer. It's an acceptable interim answer.

THIS IS A LIFE OR DEATH ISSUE.

I'm happy NHRA and the racing community is taking bold solid tangible steps to DO SOMETHING about this deadly problem.

There are good answers out there, if you "find good people and give them their head".

A quote from the father of industrial engineering Frederick W. Taylor.

The more brains you have working on this IN EARNEST the quicker you will come up with a bona fide long term solution that fixes both the safety aspect and economic aspect of "unlimited" nitro cars.

1,000 feet is an adequate interim first step. Now on to aircraft carrier inspired catch nets and fixes for blowing up all the time.

This is a band-aid on a gaping wound. Did you listen to what The Snake and Big had to say. The racers brought this upon themselves with bigger and billet is better. Team Schumacher will be going 320 in the 1000 in good air. That's still too fast. Significant mechanical changes are needed. I'm sure most drivers won't go for anti-lock 4 wheel brakes either. IMO I didn't see a radical change in the TV aspect of the 1000 ft from watching last night.

I wish some of you would be patience on this deal and see how it plays out. The sky isn't falling, so chill out for a minute.

chill out? tune out is more like it.

I just dont care. I 'm not watching it. I see how it played out. It sucks. It's like watching sex in the city on tnt. it aint' quite the same as it was on hbo , is it.

Chris, i will wait a few months and see what gets done. Time Is Of The Essence!

I noticed the same thing, even John Force admitted to it.:D

If you are going to push drag racing away over 320 ft..you was never a true dragracer to start with..Gezz It looked just fine on TV..what do you want ? still 300 MPH Nitro racing fuel cars!

I heard it's still reserved for family but they will open it up to general if they need to.
I will buy you a beer when I see you! :D

I don't think anyone is pushing Drag Racing away ,they're on here because most like me are the sport, they care enough to watch and show their concerns. It looks fine to the average eye because maybe they haven't droved the 1/4 mile or they don't understand the physics of it, not saying anythings wrong with that. Lets just get it fixed and get back to the real aspects of Drag Racing like it's suppose to be, 1/4 mile!:D
