Sorry for this post. I lurk , read and try to understand all this. I've been a fan since my 1st Winter Nats in 1963. Been a member since then. I wish the NHRA all the best. I just can't justify the cost to continue. I listened to the 1st rnd in Denver and I can't relate. I'll continue to keep up with all the guys, but the NHRA has lost me !!

Hopefully they get it sorted out and race 1320 again. I understand what you are saying. I hope you come back when that happens.
If it doesn't I will be joining you!

1000' looks as silly on tv as I thought it would.
I'm done until they go back to 1320.
I 'm not watching this . It's like watching the IRL at Richmond.

And they said I wouldn't notice:rolleyes:

I was on the fence for how it would look on tv, but wow does it look different, out of place, and leave the feeling of wanting to see more of the pass. Kinda leaves you feeling like your getting short changed as a fan.

Just my humble 2 cents.

Shutting off the nitro cars at 1000 ft kinda reminds me of indoor monster truck races on hockey rink sized arenas...good to bring the kids to for a show.....but it ain't drag racing

i agree, and i sense that the drivers and crew members know that the fans won't be hanging around long to watch 1000' passes. notice how each one asked the fans to give it a chance.

they are in a very very difficult situation, but i'm afraid 1000' is gonna really hurt attendance the rest of the way, especially if it looks anything like it does on tv.

it only makes the strongest teams stronger, team $humacher 1 and 2 in top fule and all 4 f/c in. bring back the 1320!

I really cannot see the big difference.

No big deal.

If the 1320 comes back, like I said, fine, but I really could live with it.

Sorry.

I think the majority felt this would happened. Most racers from interviews are looking for it to come back. They all agree that the cars need to be slowed down to about 300 mph and that would be fine. Don P. says there spending to much money on these motors, WHY DON'T THEY LISTEN TO WHAT DALE ARMSTRONG IS TELLING THEM. I am sold on his fix , i don't understand why the others won't get on the band wagon and fix the problem and get back to 1/4 mile racing. They could lose this sport quick if they don't get it done!!!

How many serious explosions before 1000'?

How many trips into the sand?

How many oil downs?

Yeah, I thought so:rolleyes::cool:

The NHRA just needs to make a decision on how to slow them down, say "Here is what we are going to do", and stick with it. If they are looking for input from the racers they are going to get 100 different opinions.

After watching the show tonight I would rather see slower cars run the full 1320' than watch, what is still essentially a time bomb, run 1000'. Maybe it would bring the costs down and we could see some higher car counts. Even though they are only running 1000' they are still tearing up a lot of stuff.

I wouldn't exactly use Denver as a barometer for any of those points. The main thing is everyone was safe. All fans have their own opinion on what they like or don't like. I just wait to see it before I make up my mind.

Denver is quite the barometer.

Higher compression, overdrive, 90%, a lot of trips into the sand over the years,

I think this was a success.

Of course time will tell, I may be wrong, I just don't, like you, walk around with my mind made up before I see the results.

Your mileage, or quarter, or 1000';), may vary.

The sport will not be lost............

Rex, when fans quit filling the stands the sport will start hurting and like Don P. said if they don't get a handle on the cost of running the fuel cars there won't be enough teams to have a show. I have been here over thirty years and I'm not going anywhere but i am a racer. I can keep myself happy at the local race track. This sport relies on the fans and NHRA better start listening.

I just wasn't convinced they were twisting them as hard this time. Also, Denver has the big uphill shutdown. No biggie.

Well I'm with Rex, I think it was GREAT. I would much rather see two cars under power at the 1K, then to see one or none under power at 1320'.

As far as slowing the cars down, this has done it, (not by much). Seems like any other restrictions nhra tries just causes more engine damage.

How can anyone be against giving 320 MORE shut down??? It will keep from losing the tracks that can't lengthen. And goodness knows we don't need to lose any more tracks.

To me, 1K is A-OK

As I was watching the show I was thinking "wow, this wasn't anywhere near as bad as all the Maters were saying it was going to be" and "still looks like drag racing to me". Then I come on here and people are overreacting, saying the world is over. Wow, the Mater never disappoints :)

Chris I'm not saying it's over and i think for now it will help but it's not the only fix this sport needs. The teams aren't saving much buy cutting back 320'. This can't be a permanent fix and the sport can't afford to fall into a trap and nothing else gets done. NHRA has been throwing it under the rug for the last few years now. we've got to keep the pressure on or nothing will get done.

Nobody is saying the world is over!
The world doesn't revolve around drag racing they are traditionalist and want to keep the integrity of the sport like most of the drivers you saw at top end interviews but one thing is in agreement this was the best solution till they sort it out.
I can deal with it as long as it doesn't become a permanent thing.
Remember TV can be deceiving. I will go to Sonoma and see it first hand but I can tell you already I want to see them go back to the traditional 1320.
