An old lady on the side of the road with smoke pouring out of the hood of her newer car from overheating. She is getting bad reception with her cell phone. A huge but non descript race trailer yanks over right in front of her and quickly stops. A crew frantically jumps out of the trialer and starts taking things apart. A total thrash. Tires some off, the hood and all sorts of stuff. The work is a blur as things are getting installed. The perfectly dressed crew now takes off with one guy rushing back and polishing one little spot off of the roof like he had missed a spot. The truck speeds away. Granny looks back at her car that is now tubbed with chrome wheelie bars and a polished blower and hat perched out of the hood. She looks unpleased for a split second then the huge smile of total approval and states something cheesy like "Righteous!" Then gets in and smokes um!

I like it!

Another Winner! IT's to bad the NHRA marketing dept. doesn't lurk here, they might learn something!

ok, heres mine. Its a weekday night and Tommy and Melanie are sittin' on the couch at home watching TV

Melanie - Honey did u take out the trash
Tommy - no, i think its your turn
Melanie - no i'm pretty sure its your turn
Tommy - ok lets flip a coin to decide
Melanie - no wait i got a better way

scene switches to both of them on the starting line Tommy in the monster car, Melanie in the Pro Care FC, they launch and have close side by side race

next scene Tommy in full fire suit handing the trash to the garbage man shaking his head exclaiming she beat me on a hole shot !!

That's just a great ad! If NHRA doesn't have this on the air by the end of May they are nuts!

Fun post with some great ideas! Here's mine...

Dad and 10-12 yr old son are sitting at top of stands.

Dad: Son what do you love most about drag racing. Is it the smoky burnouts?
(cut to quick shots of TF, FC, PS doing burnouts)
Son (with no expression): Nope

Dad: Is it the cool paint jobs?
(cut to quick shots of some beautiful cars like Pro Mods, FCs, Super Stockers, etc)
Son (still no expression): Nope

Dad: Is it getting to talk to the drivers?
(cut to shots of son taking pictures or getting autographs from drivers like JF, RC, Melanie, etc)
Son (still no expression): Nope

Dad: Well then what is it?
Son (points to starting line): This ...
Cut to downtrack shot from behind starting line, at centerline, close to the ground (for effect) of 2 TFs or FCs leaving the line and then a finish line shot, looking towards starting line, from centerline, of the cars coming across at 300+. Total scene should be about 4-5 sec to show entire run.

Son looks up at dad with huge grin on his face.
Dad (nodding with a smile of pride and satisfaction, putting his arm around his son): .....Me too.

Ashley: Dad can i borrow the car?
John:Yea I guess.just be home by midnight.
Next shot, Ashley zipping up her firesuit, strapping into her car & doing a burnout.

I like the ideas of showing the personalities of the drivers and how close you can get to them.
I also really like the "you have to see it to believe it" aspect of it, which of course doesnt help TV ratings at all. Every first timer I bring to the races, the best part is the faces after the first set of fuelers go down the lanes. I wish I had pics of some of their faces!

I would have 2 bigwheels at Pomona, night time with the musco lights.
Then, a shot of the Christmas tree turn green and the two "drivers" pedal as hard as they can to the finish line.
They "pull the chutes" to slow down.

Cool huh? Yeah, I got alot of ideas like that.

Paul, this is a great idea. You should run with it otherwise somebody'll beat ya to the punch, just like when I was the first one to think of Windows. Did I also mention I thought of YouTube first? Yep, I was hole-shotted (is that even a word?) on both of those.
