If you could bring back an old NHRA class ...

Bobby, no Pro Comp?? That would be my choice, probably THE coolest class of all time, at least for the first few years. However, like it's been said, it's gone for a reason. In racing, everything gravitates toward the most efficient, consistent combination. And in Pro Comp, eventually the funny cars and altereds couldn't compete with the dragsters. Parity nightmare.
AA/FAs are still plentiful, both the classic style and the FC "transformer" style.

I'd like to see A/FC, injected nitro funny cars running with the blown alcohol cars...love the cackle of those 95% dragsters...bring the same motor combo to TA/FC

AA/FA modernized along the lines of the late '80s MOB/Texas Ranger/Consolidated Packaging cars.

Jack, don't be a wet blanket and dash a kid's dreams. LOL

Okay, a gray haired kid's dreams.

I sure do miss the days of the Garley Daniels, Larry Kopp and 50 lb. flywheels.

Oh yeah .. and Bear Barrilleaux

I believe your talking about Modilied Production class and I will put a YES vote on that. Nothing better than watching them stick cars run, take that back Driving them is the best.

I saw the altered cars once. Pure luck that they ran a pair over in Columbus one Saturday in 2005. Pure luck that I can relive it because apparently someone who must have been sitting right next to me videotaped it and put it on youtube.

Pure luck again that the far lane broke off the line because as you can see it would have been ugly had they both made the pass.

Between the various Nostalgia Series' and match races, I'm inclined to think that there are more AA/Fuel Altereds running right now than there were in the 1960s or '70s.

Except most of them run alcohol. If you're going to compete in AA/FUEL ALTERED, nostalgia or otherwise, instead of an 80% nitro limit, it should be an 80% nitro MINIMUM. Most of them nowadays are effectively blown Pro Mods without the full bodies. I'd rather just watch the Pro Mods themselves.

But once they get to cacklin'.....this changes things. :)

There are plenty of places to see most of the racecars many of you seem to crave and it won't be a wet dream. Rather than continuing to live in the fantasy past, forget the BIG Show and go to an IHRA event (Where fuel altered still run on NITRO) or any one of the many Heritage Series shows or Nights of Nitro or Nightfire Nationals or Nights of Fire (Cordova, Norwalk, Famoso, Spokane, Boise).

Jeez, do you guys really think that NHRA is the only provider of Nitrotainment™ today? NHRA will keep killing the Golden Goose left to them by Wally Parks, but there are lots of places where nitro is still burned and NHRA won't have lifted your wallet before you leave.

You have to look a little harder, but wishing for NHRA to bring back a class is as realistic as watching Top Unicorn Eliminator.

Shut off your computer and go to a drag race!

Nunzio, Pro Comp was entertaining like you say for about 2-3 years! then the Dragsters took over and the rest is history!

Everyone tells me how popular Modified Elim was, must not have been that popular or NHRA wouldn't have eliminated it!

You should do some research. There were probably more Modified Eliminator cars in the country than any other category. NHRA split the category into Comp & SS. The Gas Coupes/Sedans went to Comp, the Modified Production and Super Modified went to Super Stock.

IHRA did keep the class for a long time, but it wasn't quite like the old Modified. Instead of indexes, it was dial-in racing.

In no way am I bashing the Super .90 style racing or bracket racing, but I would rather watch high revving, small cubic inch engines launched wheels up snatching gears through a 5 speed, instead of throttle stop launches and break-outs.

That being said, the Modified cars were prone to a lot of breakage, and were treated like second job throughout the week. Dad had reached enough in 1979 to walk away from it, ready to go bracket racing. It wasn't as expensive, and required much less maintenance.
