Yesterday I hit a milestone 1 gallon of blood donated! Actually, I passed the milestone by donating two pints last night so I'm at 1 gallon and 1 pint.

Any other maters give blood regularly? It's very rewarding.

My dad died at age 23 back in 1951 because the hospital ran out of blood. My mom faithfully gave a pint every 3 months for over 50 years because of this.

Your a good person for doing this and please keep it up because you could save a life.:)

That's quite an accomplishment. I've never donated blood but I donated plasma for a couple years several years ago so hopefully I helped out somebody.

Thanks!

I've never donated plasma, they've asked me about doing it but since my recent donation was red blood cells, I have to wait til February to donate plasma or platelets.

It's taken me five years to get my pin. My next donation date is in February because it's 16 weeks between red blood cell donations, only 8 weeks for whole blood.

I donated plasma since it's easier on the body. Back then I was really into weightlifting so being light-headed from blood loss wasn't exactly what I wanted. With plasma pretty much all you have to do is drink some water after donating and you're good to go. Plus you can donate a couple times a week.

Last night was the first time I'd had any real effects from the donation, and they said it was normal for a double red. They told me I'd get really cold from the inside out when they put the plasma and fluids back into me. I sure got cold!

I've been donating double reds for about a year and half...I have been donating blood on a regular basis for over 20 years...there have been a few times that I had to give it up for a while due to illness & surgery but I always go back as soon as I'm able...I've lost count as to where I am in the number of gallons donated.

That's amazing, I was so excited when I hit ONE gallon.

I've been deferred a few times due to low iron so I usually wait an extra week or two before I go in. If they defer you, they have a set time that you have to wait to try and donate again, I think 4-6 weeks so I just wait a little bit longer, I don't get deferred.

I'm O Positive and i guess they can use my blood for almost anybody who needs it. My brother is A Positive and they like his blood too. They told us that I could save him, but he couldn't save me :)

I was looking at an e-mail Tom got from his blood bank and it said if you donated consistantly every 8 weeks from the time you reach 17 to the time you reach 73 you'd have donated 43.5 gallons.
