Just wondering if they will ever finish construction on that Deal! It's been 10 years since I remember not seeing any delays, what an abortion!

Joe,
It's getting better, but it's still a crap shoot. The congestion is still there they just moved the location. Give yourself a little extra time.

The good news is the construction on Nellis is done for the most part.

For the last 2-3 years it was always concentrated on the Lake Mead-Cheyenne area.

Hello Joe last year and the first Vegas race this year if you wanted to take the 15 north off of the 515 in a race transporter they made you take eastern ave exit and go through town but now they let you get on the 15. It is cold and windy out here right now. It was so windy today that most teams did not put up there awnings.

Just so everyone knows, July 1, 2009, Nevada implemented a permit requirement for any rigs hauling race cars.

Here's a quote from the Nevada DOT web site:

Motor Carrier Permits

"Out-of state commercial vehicles with a Combined Gross Vehicle Weight Rating of 10,001 pounds or more are now required to get registration permits. (Fuel permits are not required for vehicles under 26,001 pounds unless the vehicle has three axles.)
All carriers must obtain their permit(s) before entering the state. You may no longer travel to the first available vendor."

In the Q&A they say a pick up truck hauling a race car or horse trailer if you are doing it for prize money is considered commercial and is required to have a permit. Fine for first offense is $500.

Wow, greed strikes again... I am not going to make a political comment... I am not going to make a political comment... I am not....

Of course, their construction industry is down, what, 18%? I guess they have to make it up somewhere.

Wow Randy, thanks for posting that . . . coming up next week from Houston for the Divisional. That lead me on a bit of a goose chase, but I found that I can use my Texas DOT account to get western states permits that will get me all the way there and back (each state demands about $25 to pass through under 110' in length).

Thanks RG... Saved me $500...

Thanks Randy!

Appears line #11 saves me from having to get one. I've printed it and highlighted it for our next trip to the bullring at the old Las Vegas Speedway.

Sprint car is already saving me money!

Here in Iowa they have the same law. You need log books, permits etc...

I usually don't have too much trouble going thru there. In the mornings on the way to the track, there's no traffic. At night, after the raceing, it does clog up at that interchange, but not too bad.
Maybe I'm jaded being used to L.A. traffic.

Bill, I saw your funny car up close at CHRR. It was being loaded into a trailer.
:(

Then you saw me too because I was standing right there!

Line 11 is an example saying you are hauling a classic car to a car show. The distinction is that the horse/stock car example says you are racing for "income." It is a fine line. I carry my computer with tax returns (showing no racing activity), and I only permit for overlength (86 ft verses 65 ft in many states). Additionally, I carry a Class A license and not a CDL (class A gets you big rig legal, but it can't be commercial from your home state's DOT standard . . . upside is no logs, no annual physical, etc.). Texas permits are rediculous . . . about $1k a year . . . but I can legally get around most of the time. There is an issue about only being allowed to travel interstates at night when overlength, so if the cops stake out the track exit it can be a long night. Most of it depends on your attitude when pulled over and the attitude of the officer . . . I've been pulled over about 4 times, no tickets yet, but I'm sure my turn will come up one day.
