So I see people (fans) at national events with a slick they're pushing around. How does one get one of those? Are they free from teams who would throw them out any way? I need one for my garage wall😁

Yeah; I need one to make a coffee-table with. Actually, I need the wheel, too. 😀 So I can put air in it. I think I remember a thread some time back where folks said they start to smell as the rubber deteriorates, though.

go on a qualifying day, much more laid back. Then start asking around. I got mine from Larry Dixon at National Trails the last year they were there. Probably going to be a chunked one, if they're decent they get passed on to other low budget teams.

I have a coffee table made out of wheels (no tires) it's just the right height. Wheels like everything on these cars have a cycle life, then they get used for show cars or someone's man cave. The best thing to do is simply ask. But be prepared to pay something for the wheels. There's very little chance that anyone would have worn out wheels at the track, so they might have to ship them to you from the shop.

Tires are easier because they do wear out at the track, but the Safety Safari uses the used tires for the tractors.

This is in my office. McGees gave me the tire and wheel. It is about 16 years old and showing no signs of deterioration

For every team I have ever worked for, it's a matter of right place at the right time. If we demount a set that is junk and you're standing there, it's all yours.

I have been trying for years to get one, with no luck. Even if I did get one that’s step one. I would still have to convince my mom to let me keep it in my room! Lol.

After the race was over (at Pomona) I walked to the top end shut off area. I found one just laying there. That was like 10+ years ago. It STILL smells. :)

set up days are usually the best...be prepared to have a long walk pushing a tire back to wherever you parked...they roll but your hands are gonna be filthy by the time you are back to your vehicle...good luck if its sonoma, denver or any of the really big tracks with monster parking lots...ha...and yeah as mentioned above the smell is horrendous...if it were me id go to the goodyear trailer on friday morning and buy a brand new one then go online and order a wheel from weld or american racing...mounting the tire (if you get a beadlock wheel) is pretty simple and can be done with limited mechanical experience, some windex, two large flat head screwdrivers and a rubber mallet...while the initial expense of the wheel and tire may deter you at first...think of what its worth not to have your wife make you throw away the used tire that stinks like something between a dead animal and thai food leftovers...happy hunting!

I got one of the slicks off Dale Creasy Jr's MAD magazine car that he burnt to the ground at the very first National Event at the Strip at LVMS (20 years ago ... WHAT!?!?!?!). It was cool for a while, but they take up A LOT of space, wives/girlfriends/women in general definitely do NOT dig them, they do smell. I eventually gave it to a friend for his man cave, and he didn't have it very long for all of the reasons listed above.
