HANS required for NE/1 & A/G?

Read it on another site. Anyone have a link to the ruling? Would like to know if it is heresay or not.

If you look at the end of Section 3, it states:

Beginning Jan. 1, 2012, head and neck restraint device/system meeting SFI Spec 38.1 mandatory in N/E I.

N/E II is going to get real popular with racers.

They're going to regulate racing out of existence.

Why should they be mandatory? What make 150 mph the number? What percentage of drivers have been injured or killed vrs. passes made that warrants this safety device mandatory? If someone gets killed, does that mean everyone should have to have extra protection?

Don't get me wrong, one of my drivers has a Defender by DJ and loves it. The second driver will have one by next year. But the point is, it's there choice whether or not to have one.

One more reason we're losing a democracy and becoming a dictatorship. Sorry for the political reference.

well if thats the case, then why even bother to tech anything? Why do we need chassis tags, blower restraints, trans blankets, diapers, or belly pans? Hell why even bother cleaning up after oil downs? I mean it's the drivers choice whether or not to get in it right? At some point sometimes you need to protect the drivers from themselves......why wait till someone gets hurt? Being involved with an NFC and a TF car, I know all about unnecessary rule changes and idiotic knee jerk reactions, but this is a good rule!

There are Roundy Round classes that run a whole lot slower than 150 mph that require a 38.1 device. A class that runs 5hp briggs engines and no drivers over 16 years of age requires them. I don't hear any of them complaining.

This next statement may not sit well with alot of people but its the truth (Im sorry to admit) A drag racer will spend $20,000 on a PAINT JOB for there car and not bat an eye. But try to get the same one to spend $1000 on a safety item and there kicking and screaming. A circle track racer could care less what the car looks like but will buy whatever safety device they need to go race. I admit there are some stupid safety rules. Don't get me wrong. But this truely is not one of them.

These are 7 second cars with SFI certed chassis, 5 layer fire suits, fire bottles, trans shields, blower restraints, and a lot of other safety equipment.

So if the safety equipment tab is not coming out of your pocket, please don't tell me how to spend my money on my safety equipment.

Hmm, please show me in my post where I told you how to spend your money. I stated my opinion that any car that goes over 150 should have one and I stand by it, as well as standing by my support of this rule. If you don't like it then perhaps you shouldn't run at heritage series races or move down a class. I am not interested in turning this into a pissing match and that is what your first post today came across as, so if that's what you want fine, but find someone else because I am over it.

In 2004 I had a wreck and got the k-rail head on at Famoso just over 100 mph when the rear end broke. Just wore a standard neck pad/brace. Doctors told me they couldn't believe I hadn't broke my neck....I wear a HANS device now. My decision...

I suggest them to everyone I race with.

In a couple of weeks I'll be getting a sample of another brand of SFI Head & Neck Restaint Device,
so I can have a number of racers try them for fit and see how it works for getting in & out of the roll bars.
I'll keep you posted on the results.
