Greg Anderson interview...

The fans and drivers safety is most important, then you have the investment, so the drivers should have every right to raise hell. With today's tragedy and the track conditions, it just might bring the end to Firebird Raceway.

Lets all say a prayer for the family and their loss of a love one today.

Larry Morgan couldn't keep his motor running? right. Rickie Jones tip-toed out of that round too:rolleyes: More like didn't want to risk making "and they walked away" highlights. Who could blame them?:D

Pro Stocks are running slightly quicker and faster than my last TAFC (1981); but with less spoiler, less WB, and more forward engine (and two more shifts). So it has to be a handfull.

Pat,
Do you know how long the minimum has been in place, without being changed? I admit the PC graph from Vinnie's car was pretty damning evidence...
Jesse,
If we close every racetrack that's not pefect, we'll be having 4 Nationals a year at about 5 tracks??

I agree 100 percent about the tragedy of losing the life of a spectator...simply terrible, and my condolences to the family, and also to those who had to witness it. I've gotten several calls from racer friends who were there and are very shaken by the events of this weekend.

What they need is a decent race track

How about a DIFFERENT track?

The following comes from the recap story that was just posted NHRA.com

============

The quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds of Pro Stock will be run during qualifying at the 41st annual Tire Kingdom NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway.

The unfinished rounds will be completed during the second, third, and fourth rounds of qualifying for the event in two weeks at the historic Florida dragstrip.

Billy, closing a track is the last thing I want. Track owners and operator have the responsibility to provide a safe environment for fans and racers and they haven't done that. It's been known for sometime now that the land owners want to build a casino and hotels on this land and would like to close the track. So there has been no capital for improvements and it's starting to show

I am guessing anyone that ran the left had their hand on the chutes as soon as they made the last shift. If the car felt the least bit wiggly, out came the chutes. Almost every PS car in the left had a small amount of tire smoke and wiggle through the lights, it seemed most already had the chutes out.

Finishing the class at Gainesville seems to be the right decision, has this ever happened before?

I'm not sure how long the minimum angle has been in place without a change, but the increased spillplates and wicker are more recent changes. Firebird has never been kind to P/S, so, most guys have more than the legal minimum, especially when they are in the left lane. BTW, the tech guys do wander around the staging lanes occasionally with a digital protractor looking for violations. Been busted a few times, but they usually just have you raise it back up where it's supposed to be.

What I dont get is some of this stuff has been known for years at these tracks, bumps, dips, drainage issues, concrete to asphalt transitions ect. These drivers in all the classes have the classes have their hands full on level track, why not address these track surfaces immediately?

Its sad when retired announcers talk about the same bumps and dip in the left lane "way back when I raced"...

Firebird has sucked for years. Charlie is a selfish..greedy bast$rd..period.

Pardon my French.

I have to wonder what effect all the rain has had on the track though. Not just this weekend, we've had more rain in the first month and a half this year than all of last year. I wouldn't be suprised if water was seeping out from under the track.

I could tell he was p!ssed as soon as he started talking ... "Sideways thru the lights" and "this place sucks" were heard ... but that was about it ... then a few seconds of dead air. Maybe he just walked away lest he get fined?

I NHRA fines him for his comments, then NHRA should pay for the 2 pro stock cars that were crashed.

From what I witnessed yesterday, hotel and casino would be an improvement.:(
