Even though I love all motorsports, considering how far in debt we are in this country, I think banning government sponsorship of sporting events is a no brainer. $650K to sponsor a race that got zero recruits pretty much says it all.
I'm pretty sure the Army's goal is not to recruit people at the race, that would be kinda ridiculous. their objective, just like any other advertisement, is to probably plant a seed in one's brain. In the advertising industry, there's a term for that, which escapes me right now.

The sponsorship money Schumacher receives is no different than the money spent on the Blue Angels and the Thunderbirds. The only real difference is the hardware showcased in the presentation. Effectivity is in the message carrier, and I think all three groups do an excellent job selling the service they represent to their target audience.
the army deal is unique because in tony the army found the perfect dancing partner.....i'm sure they love what he does for them
and i'm sure he loves the role he plays in their recruitment strategy.
