Gilbertson ready to race in the desert.
Phoenix, prerace: -- After qualifying for the quickest nitro Funny Car field ever and despite a disappointing first round loss at the season-opening Winternationals, Bob Gilbertson is really stoked about this weekend's CSK NHRA Nationals at Firebird Raceway in Phoenix.
"Our performance at Pomona proved that we're on the right track," Gilbertson said. "Even though we stumbled against Capps in the first round we ran a 4.78 during qualifying with the chutes out early and backed that up with a 4.82 on seven cylinders so we've now got a base line tune-up to work with.
Gilberston's crew chief Tommy Delago echoed Gilbertson's comments.
"Being a single-car team and despite not having the big budgets most of our competitors have, we feel pretty good about our chances in Phoenix," Delago added. "We've got different parts, new crew guys and qualifying for the quickest Funny Car field ever gives us the confidence and momentum we need to go and make some noise at Firebird Raceway. If the weather cooperates I'm sure we'll be able to put down some big numbers."
TELEVISION SCHEDULE
