what do you guys think? Probably going to cost them $100k I think. Here's my question, if the crew cant touch the car once the inspectors say there taking it that means only the driver can place the magnet there correct? B/c we know it wasnt there during the race. So the driver had to put it there either as soon as the race was over incase the car got impounded or once they said they wanted it, they placed it there. Interesting. I'd like to know what Tony has to say about it.

NASCAR.COM - JGR faces penalties after Nationwide post inspection - Aug 17, 2008

I don't blame them; they are being penalized for working harder then the other teams.

NASCAR proves once again that if they approve the parts, and you do your job well...WELL we can't have that. YOU CAN'T LEGISLATE COMPETITION! 5 years ago this would cause me concern. I couldt really care less.

Personally, I think its genius. I'm just wondering what the fall out is going to be over it. Its same with any sport almost now, we have to keep everything a level playing field. Its pathetic. Let me tell you, I was asked to coach little league this year b/c they needed coaches but I didnt for one reason. And I dont even have a kid mind you. The reason I didnt do it, b/c they dont keep score. They dont want to hurt the kids feelings if they lost. Are you freaking kidding me?

The fallout should be both parties call it even. NASCAR approved the new Toyota engines and the parts for 2008. The Yoter teams worked hard to make the HP. Then 3 weeks ago NASCAR made the Yoter teams run a smaller spacer to reduce HP. I know this doesn't happen in racing, BUT, should NASCAR be giving money back to Toyota team right now since they spent tons of $$$$ on making the HP in the first place. I could go on a f'in rant right now but NASCAR isn't worth it. The whole industry that is NASCAR sucks and has gone straight to.......!!!!!!!!! Here's an idea: Let's forget about tracks that make for good racing and go to a bunch of 2 mile single groove "new ultra modern" racetracks than put more fans in the seats. I'm shutting up....like I said, it isn't worth it.

Can someone explain to me what exactly the magnets do (or did). I don't understand the mechanics of it.
Thanks

The responsible parties openly admitted to "Cheating" (their words, not mine) and accepted full responsibility for doing so. Amazing how some would call this "working harder?"

As I understand it, they acted as removable spacers which would appear to be part of the floor panel under the gas pedal hoping to be undetected while keeping the vehicle from opening the throttle fully and thus exposing the horsepower that had been mandated to be reduced by NASCAR. Seems they hadn't reduced the horsepower as they were instructed to after demonstrating a clear advantage over the field for the past few months winning nearly every race. Someone thought they could show a reduction in power after the race by using the magnetic spacers in lieu of compliance? Joe openly disagreed and intends to impose his own fines as his credibility is at stake.

I can't believe ANYONE would think that limiting the travel of the throttle pedal would fool anyone. If you were going to run a car on a chassis dyno (or an engine on a dyno in a test cell), one of the first things that you do is make sure that you have WOT (wide open throttle) available. Its easy to check. Have someone hold the pedal down and then check to make sure that the butterflies are wide open. If NASCAR was checking to see if one engine/team had a HP advantage, don't you think that they would check for this? I just don't get it.

What I was referring to as "working harder" is the fact Nascar implemented a rule to limit the horsepower of the Toyota engines. The Toyota teams busted their as$es to get that horsepower to only have Nascar take it away from them. It appears the teams worked even harder to gain more horsepower since the rule was implemented which is perfectly legal. Now, the magnetic trick is totally against what the Gibbs team stands for when it comes to integrity. I can understand why the teams would try to circumvent the dyno, but at the end of the day the organization they work for does not condone that kind of activity so it was wrong.
