I am SO sorry everyone, especially you Jenn, for not seeing this thread. Thanks so much for all of your good wishes and prayers, I've been trying to whittle away at over 2500 emails and I haven't been out to 'mater much at all.
Tis truel Had a total hip replacement of my right hip at 9:30am Friday, May 16, was in a room by 1pm and walking by 3pm. Was released from the hospital at 2:30 pm on Sunday. I'm staying with my cousin Tom and his wife Cheryl's for my in house physical therapy.
I had my left hip replaced in 1999 and had general anesthesia. It took me weeks to rebuild my strength and stamina and stop feeling groggy. This time I had a spinal, and Tom said I was as alert as soon as I came out of the OR as I was before going intothe operating room. A world of difference.
Started the PT on Tuesday. All of the bedrooms are upstairs, so Ive got the step thing pretty well down pat.
The incision hardly hurts and even the exercise isn't so bad. I have, however, developed a pretty intense pain in, well, in the center of my right buttock. Gives the phrase, 'pain in the butt' a whole new meaning. I would like to ask you all to continue to pray about this one because I have to be able get back to only needing a cane before I can function on my own. I need to be able to drive as soon as possible. While most doctors don't even want their patients in a car, much less driving one, for 6-8 weeks, mine says I can when I can. Of course, the risk is being involved in an accident. I have a follow up visit next Thursday at 3pm and had hoped I could drive myself there. If I don't get some serious relief from this pain, I don't think I will even be able to get in and out of the car, or TO the car.
I went into this surgery, not expecting much pain relief, as the hip had pretty much stopped hurting last year some time. The pain I expected to continue, was in my extreme lower spine, tail bone... which has been causing most of my disability. I had only been able to walk/stand for 1-2 minutes before having to sit down from that pain. A minute sitting, and I could go on. Not able to do much, with that criteria, that's for sure.
This other pain doesn't go away much. It will subside when I sit, but it starts again as soon as I walk. But I have virtually no pain from the actual hip replacement.
Please keep me in your prayers.
