Excellent article. Love Force or hate him, you have to respect what the man has done for the sport. In my opinion, nobody has done more for NHRA drag racing in the modern era than John Force.

Good article.

I think some folks will have some problems with the context of this line:

"Force remembers that he would stop by the snack bars at racetracks late at night to collect sandwiches that the proprietors were going to throw away."
I think it's been a few years since John "garbaged" for dinner (Though I don't doubt there was a time he DID).

New York Times??? I would never have thought of John as a commie pinko. :D:D

Don't ever confuse a newspaper's editorial page for the rest of the paper. The Wall Street Journal may have a very conservative bent in terms of its editorial page, but its reporting of the news is very straight up and objective.

That USED to be the case. Subscribed for 25 years. After Rupert Murdoch bought it, it went totally south. Now it seems like every article, at the very least, the front page, reads just like Fox News.

NYTs has a left slant on their straight news reporting. It is a propaganda machine.

Christ can't you people just be happy Force is in one of the most important newspapers in the world and leave it at that.

Exactly. You can't report the news without some kind of "slant". Even what you report and don't report is a "slant".

The NYTimes has a printed readership of about a million and gets 20 million unique visitors a month to it's web site. I'm willing to be that of those 20+million readers 19.9million don't know squat about drag racing. This can't hurt.

Good thing they printed the article this year. They may not be able to in the near future as they are in trouble, while the WSJ is not.

The Next Shoe Drops At The New York Times, 2010.

Wonderful. Rupert Murdoch pollutes another medium with his vile sputum.

I'm a moderator on another web site. As a moderator I am held to a higher standard and expected to set an example with regards to the rules of the site in my posts and my actions concerning topics and posts that cross the line.

You, my friend, as a moderator of this site toss your leftist theocratic political opinions around here like we are somehow ignorant while deleting threads and banning people you don't like for responding to those political posts or statements made by you or your like minded friends in the name of "the rules." Kevin Stith comes to mind. Minutes later you are at it again in another thread like this one.

Give us a break with your "vile spitum" and take it to another board. That is, unless you feel the need to debate me about the Marxists/Socialist you love and support. I would be happy to oblige.

By the way, in case you feel the need to delete MY post or ban me, I sent a copy of this to "The Boss".

This post has been long in the making. I came here for drag racing, not politics. If I wanted to argue politics I'd hang out at the coffee pot at work and argue with my co-workers, but not on a forum that normally makes me happy.

I apologize. I try hard to refrain. I watch as short snipe after short snipe goes on and on. I ignore them. I never bring up politics first. But when people put a two page political argument into a thread about attendance, or inject politics into every single topic without regard to their subject, I find it hard.
