Fontana to reopen in 2014

OK so its muffler for a while, is there a speed/E.T. limit as well? I have two cars with full exaust systems, one is My supercharged 89 Mustang Boss 5.0with a 5 speed and 4:10 rear end that will do high 9's and a Camaro that pull 540 HP at the tires, , it should be in the same e.t. range we have never raced it on a drag strip ( that does't mean we don't race it). I also have a shorty steppy pickup that makes 530 HP at the tires with mufflers on pump gas it's pretty well known on the streets of the OC and LBC .

I guess We'll be at the doorslammer opener.

Guys, its not what you have but its all about the noise. Pretty sure that the sound tests will continue once the track opens and no matter what you have if its under the sound level you can run.

Larry, your ticket is waiting!

NO Nitro shows there for a while, if any. No alcohol and no zoomies for a while, according to VP of Operations Ray Wilkings as of last Friday December 6, 2013. NHRA Street Legals maybe by the end of February 2014.

A full report and photos in BangShift.com Tuesday morning.

Sounds like its just going to be Bracket muffler racing, I figured!

I'm curious how loud the NASCAR race is? Or do they get a pass?

Seven-plus figures into the track and local economy verses local teams buying beer and gas at the local Circle K, Joe... I think the roundy-round guys get a pass....

Joe, mufflers are not in the plan at this time. I remember street legals at Pomona and some of the cars that legal mufflers on them hit the meter higher than a car with open headers.

Larry, NASCAR track is 100% legal for their sound requirements.

Decibels over distance. The circle track is permitted. BTW, inside the oval is used all the time for other forms of racing. In the SW corner of the property Shifter Cart courses are set up at least every time I've been there.

Had they not moved the strip from the original location, the sound would not have been an issue.

We have a Winner! The idea that a NASCAR track would support Drag racing is just to much...
Firm grasp of the obvious there Joe, however there have been multi-millions of dollars spent by the Speedway and NASCAR's ISC to defend the lawsuit before the San Bernardino Superior Courts, as well as being responsible for the costs of the community group. BTW the old track location had very short shutdown area that ended in piled-up tires. While noise wasn't an issue - there were others, the track is in a better and safer location now.

Darr, you saying the track had NO clue Noise would be an issue on that side of the track before they forced the move? If you say they spent a lot of $$$ fighting for the track, that's great. But why allow it in the first place if your gonna force them to move it 2 years later?

I have driven both tracks, the current 1/4 mile is a much better track its a permanant race track.
The 1/8 mile track was a temporary deal at best, and just flat scary in the shutdown area, like Irwindale's 1/8th mile and the four lane 1/8 th deal at Qualcom Stadium.

I was one of the last guys to go down Fontana before it closed, I'm looking forward to getting down it again.

Larry, what 1/8th mile track are you referring to?

The 1/8th mile that was on the other side, at California Speedway.

As far as the Big track goes, I have also driven the road course on open track days, and the tri- oval during testing .

I was told several years ago, NHRA was given the option to have a world class track built on the grounds at California Speedway but would have to move the winter'nat's and finals there, NHRA refused, they did the right thing by doing so.

Fire the next pair........................

Well, then you never actually ran there then. Finish line was 1/4 mile from the starting line.

And the shutdown area was far from scary. Sounds more like you're attempting to tell another "story".
