Fans in the stands

Seemed like a good crowd during earlier rounds, lots of great racing yet it appears that everyone leaves before the finals. Do fans nowadays get their fill by the semis?

Many out of towners and have early flights they are tyring to catch, others try to beat traffic and if you don't have a favorite in the final why stick around.

I don't get it, they pretty much have to chase me out after a race. :)

It looked like a pretty good turnout! I haven't seen it like that in awhile. Blows my "ticket prices are too high" argument out of the water. *edit: There was also a monster truck event happening at Anaheim stadium Saturday night and the supercross races were in San Diego that weekend also.*

Many try to beat the outgoing traffic jam from the fairplex. It can be pretty bad there. I either leave as the last car crosses the stripe or I stay late. I even got locked IN LVMS one time for staying so late.

That race is rough if you are flying back to Chicago. If you are not on the 6pm flight, then the next option are the red eyes at 11pm.

Crowd seemed BIG enough. Great vibe with no major crashes or oildown delays. You fill up Pomona and the place gets uncomfortable fast for just too many people. Exit traffic was good up until the 'bang-bang-bang' rearend tappers on Hwy 210 West. Good Race to see live.

Why do they close the 1,000ft grandstands ?? I know there are folks that prefer sitting top-end.

they are in a path of the runway across the road, so its as Paul said, a FAA regulation. I'm surprised the FAA haven't made them take them down. I think the FAA made them lower the scoreboards before that pilot hit one of them.

Having made numerous approaches to, and landings at Brackett Field, the scoreboards are not a problem. The glideslope keeps you well above them and you are on the shutdown side of the scoreboard as you pass over the track. And that was when they ran a 1/4 mile! And yes, you can hear the cars as you pass over the track. Heard the P/S cars very well.

FWIW

If you see how tough it is getting out of that place, it's understandable! I park Pitside which is awesome!

The "beat the traffic" bit is ridiculous. Why spend good money on a ticket then leave before the finals?

When we go to Gainseville, as it's a 5 hour trip for us we book an extra day so we often stay and interact with the winners on Sunday without feeling "time crunched," then we go back home on Monday morning.

Whenever I attend races live, I'm usually one of the last people out of the gate. I never leave before they hang the last dog...

Same with me David. Even if I'm at a sprint car race or some other form of motor sports. Why leave early and miss what you paid to see???? My point of view is you can run to the car and wait in line and get frustrated, or you can spend a very enjoyable 30-60 minutes touring the pits and interacting with the drivers and them casually walk out to the parking lot, get in the car, and drive out without any waiting! Maybe its a midwestern thing??

There were fans in the stands? Based on the very tiny bit I watched it didn't look like the stands were more than about 60% full.

During the early rounds, the crowd looked pretty full all the way to the covered top end section. I'm not talking SRO, but pretty strong. That was my point, by the finals it had thinned a lot.
