With the weather delay ESPNs is going to show the finals at (either 1:00am or 1:30am) LATER b-- Set your Tivo 'cause TIVO isn't going to see it otherwise.
Turns out the answer to the original question is... NEITHER! Of course it's delayed because of a college baseball game. The "NCAA SuperRegionals". Sheesh... Can the NHRA not get a break on broadcasts?
this deal ticks me off. They (ESPN) are willing to pre-empt the NHRA stuff almost every telecast, but when we run over its see you later, lets go cover the "mongolian pee ant sprints"
Does anybody know when this ESPN contract is over? This is beyond enough. Go watch the finals on the internet; are you kidding? ESPN pulled this same crap with the IndyCar Race Saturday night. The Nascar race ran long (what else is new) and they said those that want to watch the IndyCar Race should go to this 360 thing. I heard some people went to it and they were showing the Nascar race. Isn't there about a dozen ESPN channels, why can't they just bump it over to ESPN Classic or something? How bad is NHRA going to have to be treated by ESPN before some higher-up at Wally World takes note? Unless I'm mistaken, doesn't NHRA pay for the TV time? BTW, they finally ran the finals at 2:19AM (EST) and it was on for 15 minutes.
I just wish they would have told the viewer you aren't going to see the finals until after midnight during the front ,or at worst middle, of the broadcast. But then again, I KNOW THEY WOULDN'T DO THAT.
i hope nhra finds more sunday nite time slots where their event is followed
by pre-recorded events (aka - poker).
i'd rather start watching at 8 or 9pm and am fairly certain the entire event will
be shown, compared to what happened last nite.
also, if show is same day tape delayed, doesn't a later start time allow
more time to pre-package show based on the 2, 2.5 or 3 hr. time slot
later that evening? (taking into account weather & oil-downs)
i can understand the early start times (before 6pm) - my best guess is that's
what the sponsors want.
oh well, as usual, am glad it's on, whatever the scenario.
And as long as we're in the complaining mode.... I am still sometimes dumbfounded on which teams/drivers get interviews and which don't. And by the way, I'm not referring only to "my" team. I see it all the time. Sometimes I wonder what's really going on behind the scenes between the ones who get the over-exposure and those who don't.... but the world will never know. That's one area I think they should really address, is striving for more equal camera time, because all they're doing is duping the sponsors. I know it's hard to keep drivers around to talk on the top end after a run; but they should consider taping those and inserting them back in a few minutes later... or something. If you're the last car in your class to run... plan on TV either going right into the next class or to commercial....
earlier broadcast = more expensive, better viewership(better sponsor exposure)
harder to pre-empt scheduled shows before or after nhra race because those shows have all the same reasons to be on that the nhra show does; not
to mention which direction the money is moving between espn and show.
later broadcast = less expensive, less viewership(exposure), easier to
pre-empt as network may have 'repeat' broadcasts scheduled allowing for
easier manipulation of schedule (i.e. live final rnds. a couple of weeks ago)
just my best guesses at what might be happening at espn
