I read on another board a TAFC was killed today, and the police have shut everything down. Anyone hear anything? I hope this is wrong, but...

What horrible news. Condolences to the family.

Wow, some tough questions are going to have to be answered by the NHRA. This does not bode well for anyone.

Sorry for the mispell. Apparently it was Neal Parker. Very sorry to hear this.

So sad to hear this, my heart goes out to the family as well as our NHRA family. Brings back far to many memories of all that have gone too soon. Can only hope that it brings comfort that he was doing something that he loved. God speed....

this is from the NHRA.com results page:

===================================

ENGLISHTOWN, N.J. - ENGLISHTOWN - Notes from round 1 qualifying in Top Alcohol Funny Car at the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series, 41st annual NHRA SuperNationals listing lane, driver name, elapsed time, top speed, and position in order following run:

Right Lane: Eric Lourie Runs 5.664/251.11, Now #1

11:52 a.m. - Lourie took his car down the groove.
Left Lane: John Headley Runs 6.666/158.00, Now #3
Right Lane: Neal Parker Runs 5.732/249.90, Now #2

Headley spun the tires coming off the starting line and it sounded as if he never shifted. Parker ran his career best ET and speed but then never opened his chutes. The car went off the track into the sand. We'll be down here for a while.

NHRA SuperNationals FRIDAY TOP ALCOHOL FUNNY CAR

Godspeed, Neal.

Yes its true.. Soo sad and I'm sick to my stomach...I wasn't here but when I got here its said he was going at least a hundred into the traps.. Chutes never opened... Horrible way to start the weekend.. Racing is suppsod to resume soon ... Prayers go to parker family

What a sad day! Especially with all the work they did to that track to improve safety! Godspeed to the Parker family!

This is a sad day for all! What will the NHRA do now! They already have safety as there #1 problem.Hope the family is doing ok! This will be a vary good issue to address.MY BEST TO THE WHOLE FAMILY...............

First off my condolences to the family and friends of the driver. Secondly let's not point blame until we know what happened. Maybe a stuck throttle or some other cause. Maybe the driver had a heart attack or something happen and he was already gone as the car went in the shutdown. Too many "ifs" to throw anyone under the bus yet. The car was only doing 250 at the quarter mile mark. I would think it headed into the sand at a much less rate than Kalitta.

Also it doesn't appear the day is lost either... From NHRA.com

Update (3.p.m): We've been down for a period of time following an ontrack incident. Officials are now projecting a return to action at 4 p.m. local time, beginning with Pro Stock Motorcycle.

i know they say the show must go on .. but not here ... close this track NOW !

Then your gona be closing a lot of tracks ... Before scott etown went almost 30 years without a death. And when these machines have chutes that don't come out its gonna be a bad ending at 80% of the tracks on tour.. Its bad luck
