I don't know the rule and I am not a Greg Anderson fan. So why am I inclined to believe him more than Graham Light and Rick Stewart? Hmmm, could it be because of some of the iffy/BS calls they have made in the past?

I don't understand. Shouldn't it be reasonable to expect that once you light the pre stage bulb you should be able to finish staging in seven seconds? what was his intent? To try and hang Erica out to dry? If Greg wasn't ready why did he pre stage?

Three bulbs have to be on for autostart. The starter has the choice to override autostart if he chooses. He chose not to override because he's also sick of seeing GA win.

Autostart has been used at all NHRA nationals events since 2001 and has not changed in any way for the Pros's.
At no time is it turned off in any way. At 3 lights the time out timer starts the 7 second countout.
In this case Rick Stewart acctually held the activation of the system till Greg Pre Staged, veiwing the tapes at TV it was 9.5 seconds from Gregs PS to the Red.
I feel for Greg that there was a missunderstanding in their camp about how autostart worked in that situation but has never been as Greg stated.
Also it was not a heated disscution in the tower, as I was part of it Greg and Ken wanted to know why and it was explained. Voices were never raised and no anger showen, they were frustrated but that was understandable. I respect Greg and Ken for their composure in the situation.

One of the things that didn't get done in time for this year's event was the installation of video screens in the media center, so we did not have the benefit of a video replay before posting our report and we did the best we could with the audio from the PA system. I am waiting to see the replay on the TV show to find out what the actual sequence was, but from the drivers' descriptions, it sounds like Enders went in and lit both bulbs before Greg lit the pre-stage bulb. That's legal in the Professional ranks, not legal in the Sportsman categories where "courtesy staging" is required.

In any event, the sequence caught Anderson off-guard and he was timed out before he could get the car fully staged.

I wouldn't call it a spanking but another mistake by GA. One good run out of 5,wonder if he's feeling the "pressure"? If this kind of stuff keeps up, ( I hope it does) there will be a new P/S Champ come Pomona besides KB Racing.

pressure from what??!!!

Just saw it on TV. Is Rick Stewart always that much of an ass? I realize, after Jeff Foster clarified, that Greg was wrong, but the attitude that Rick copped with Ken Black seems out of line.

rick is like that if somebody tells him if hes wrong. id be like that to if id have to put up with half of the hell he has to

So did I, does Ken Black have to be in his face?
If you were are deaf as Rick is by Sunday, you would be loud as well.
You are correct, you are confused

I just counted and once Greg pre-staged it was 13 seconds (give or take my "one-one thousand" counting) until Rick dropped the lights. Im sure he could have brought it in in those, lets say, 10-13 seconds. I dont get the big deal, even Mike Dunn said he never heard of the rule Greg was talking about...

Just aired - I assume we didn't see real time footage, because it didn't look like seven seconds. Dunn very plainly stated that KB Racing was wrong in assuming that one driver lighting both bulbs turned off the AutoStart.
And . . . Larry and Jeff, thanks for your input on this and the real deal on Del and Kim's problems.

I don't see the problem in todays race. He had his normal 7 seconds to stage after he prestaged. Was he trying to hang her out there? If he let it rattle him, that's his problem. If he saw her in, he could take his time pre staging and then an additional 7 seconds to stage. If he didn't notice her in and staged early, then why did he take so long to stage, after his prestage?

He has seen many burn down attempts and knows nothing starts until both prestage and one stages. In my opinion, he just blew it.

Greg thought the timer was turned off if a driver turned on both bulbs before the other drive turned on the prestage bulb. It sounded like he was trying to hang her out, but he he hung himself out.
