Back in the mid-seventies, we were working with a local steam turbine engines manufacturer on putting one in one of their light weight "smaller" turbine engines, boiler, reservoir, etc. in our rear engined Comp Eliminator dragster.
The idea was to mate it to the converter and powerglide with the boiler over the top of both. Steam exhaust pointed straight up to maximise the "exhaust plume" for effect. We even found an old steam engine train whistle for starting line games.
Exhibition, of course, but there lots of off creatures showing up at the races in those days.
The promised funding fell through, but it was an interesting exercise!
