As far Cruz, the race right before Indy was Brainard, where he raced his brother heads up and lost. I can see why he was pissed. On a personal level, playing in competitive golf tournaments at age 40 I have begun to place all the blame on the individual competing (myself) for missed opportunities. So, today I believe while the 2009 US Nationals fiasco & what may have happened Sunday in Pomona was wrong on certain levels, Cruz (2009) and John Force (2014) should not have triple bogeyed a hole or two earlier in the season. Thus they would not have needed to close the round birdie-birdie to win . (Heads Up: Golf Analogy)
My point is that diving sucks. But at the heart of it is the individual who got beat, or didn't accomplish the goal. I cannot speak for Cruz (2009) or John Force. I would hope today each would simply say their teams should have won more rounds. Period. I know this is what I have said about my performance. Control what you can control. Be the best you can be. If you lose, recognize that you needed to be better. In the case of Cruz (2009) it was the events leading up to the US Nationals. For John, it was last handful of races.
