$ difference between TD and TAD?

Staggering amounts for those payouts. Unbelievable.

Wasn't Timex big into sponsorship too, and another big watch brand? Audemars-Piguet?

Guess that's one reason why I never found it to be "relatable".

Couple thoughts come to mind - 1. an interesting mix of international/foreign companies involved, and 2. I wonder how many of those companies are not publicly traded ones? Red Bull still making the big money despite the massive influx of new entries in the "energy drink" market.
Timex? You mean Rolex? They were the official timing partner of F1 for a long time, but TAG Heuer just took that over.

Watch companies do have a lot of history in F1 and a lot of teams have watch brand partners. Usually mid-high end Swiss brands. Hublot, Richard Mille, Oris, IWC, Breitling, etc. have partnered with teams either currently or in the recent past. And of course back in the 80s TAG went so far as to fund and badge the Porsche-built engine used by McLaren for a while.

I was talking to a guy not long ago who used to run TAD but has run TD for the last few years and has a 6.0, 220 mph car.

I asked: Why? He has the money to run TF if he wanted to.

His answer was: They have the fun to work ratio completely upside down.

The whole Red Bull deal amazes me. They are not a sponsor, they actually OWN their race team, and also put money into another 2 car team, Racing Bulls I think? And, they sponsor countless other sporting events/activities. Do they really sell that much Red Bull? Like you said Eric, there are a lot of players in the energy drink market. You would think people are drinking this stuff day and night, lol. I've never heard any RB sales numbers, being that it's a private company.

No different than any other class. It depends on how you do it.

Tony Bartone spends much more than Tony Bogolo. (not picking on Bogolo, he runs a very nice opperation. His name just popped into my head.)

If you have a couple of friends that like to help, you run within 500 miles from home and have a conservative combination that doesn't hurt itself, run the rods 20 runs, and carry two or three transmission ratios that you pick the closest for the conditions. You spend less......

Than a guy with a fully paid crew that flies in, run coast to coast and runs the car so hard that they cycle rods every 6 runs, and have 20 transmission ratios so you always have the perfect one for the conditions. You spend more.....

Reminds me of Mike Burns from Bisbee. I dont remember the exact numbers but I remember Mike told me one time it was about half as much to run an A/Fuel car as it was to run a blown alcohol car because of the extra wear and tear on the valvetrain & blowers. Mike did it about as barebones as anyone out there but more often than not he would qualify at national events. I remember one fall race in Vegas he qualified I think 12th or 13th in a record field. Makes me wonder how much the cost gap is from a blown dragster in Top Dragster (I know they dont run those cars on kill) to an A/Fuel car.

Also Alan, have you talked to or heard from Mike lately? I emailed him about a year ago and never heard back.

Yeah shoot I had a lack of brain air - it was Rolex I saw signs for. I'll need to do penance for such a lapse!

That's interesting, I didn't know about the many other watch brands serving as partners. That's an interesting sponsor and again, international/foreign companies too. Wonder how that came to be when they weren't in other sports.

Did Seiko ever get involved in sponsorships?

I have a nice Belair watch and to my knowledge that's the last domestically made watch.

Oh yeah.....Maybe Red Bull owns other things we don't know about. I think they are a Thai company aren't they?

Must be a lotta cash in those little cans.

two F1 teams and are involved with soccer too i'm almost sure?

Currius as to what a TD will run if taken off the leash. Is the chassis certified to do this.
No, the chassis will not certify faster than 6.00. That’s why NHRA has the 6.10 cap on the dial-in. Gives a tenth cushion just in case they break out.

I'd be curious to find out how much more robust F1 brakes are than nitro or top alcohol brakes.
Lol!...the brakes on my ZR1 are more robust than the brakes on a T/F or TAFC/TAD.

There are drivers who continue their partnerships long after their driving careers have ended. Jackie Stewart has been with Ford Motor company and Rolex since his days at Ken Tyrrell Formula 1. Nikki Lauda had Parmalat for 25 years and Novomatic was his personal sponsor.

I know a couple comp racers who never made the step to TAD/TAFC because it was way too much work and too dangerous depending on the divisional tracks they would have to race on.
