Timex? You mean Rolex? They were the official timing partner of F1 for a long time, but TAG Heuer just took that over.Staggering amounts for those payouts. Unbelievable.
Wasn't Timex big into sponsorship too, and another big watch brand? Audemars-Piguet?
Guess that's one reason why I never found it to be "relatable".
Couple thoughts come to mind - 1. an interesting mix of international/foreign companies involved, and 2. I wonder how many of those companies are not publicly traded ones? Red Bull still making the big money despite the massive influx of new entries in the "energy drink" market.
Watch companies do have a lot of history in F1 and a lot of teams have watch brand partners. Usually mid-high end Swiss brands. Hublot, Richard Mille, Oris, IWC, Breitling, etc. have partnered with teams either currently or in the recent past. And of course back in the 80s TAG went so far as to fund and badge the Porsche-built engine used by McLaren for a while.
