I just e-mailed NHRA with my thoughts. Basically begging for copies, maybe something we could even buy and give the proceeds to DRAW. One more tradition possibly flushed down the sh*tter.
PS - JRX - here's my donut order: some frosted long johns, and maybe a chocolate or vanille filled! Glazed are good too !

Unfortunately, not a surprise. Effort involved in getting this prepared, printed and back to the track (or duplicated at a facility at the track) had to be considerable. An educated guess is that the printer in Indy that was willing to do this at a reasonable cost is . . . out of business.
Internet communications and the ability of small businesses to do their own printing is decimating small and medium sized print shops. Did I mention that I'm really enjoying not being involved in this disaster? -

I applaud all of the staff of National Dragster,and the printers for all they have done In getting this printed In the past,but changing to an online format does nothing to help the fan that Is actually attending.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Daily. When I first went to work at NHRA.com they actually took the ENTIRE production department to Indy in order to get the Daily done in time every night. I heard nothing but horror stories about staying up until 3 or 4 am trying to get it done.
Me and my stupid big mouth asked why they didn't just do everything over the network and leave everyone behind in CA to do the work without the travel expenses.
Due to that little suggestion I got to go to Indy several days early to set everything up. That part I hated.
I loved getting to go to Indy and seeing so pretty amazing races. I got to meet Cha Cha and Large Father, I got some pretty sweet souvenirs that are priceless to me, and I got the satisfaction of hearing the fans talk about how cool getting the Daily was every morning.
I was not surprised that they stopped production. It was very expensive, very time consuming, and a very large pain in the ass. Sucks to see it go but I bet the production staff will be throwing a party!!

Phil Burgess mentioned that the internet has really taken the luster away from the daily paper. I used to really dig getting the daily when going to Indy. Another tradition that I'm afraid has gone away because of the internet is the Memorabilia show. I remember that it dwindled over a few years as more stuff was being sold on the internet. That was a great time while it lasted, me and my dad had a riot looking for old mags & pics from when he raced, kind of a cool treasure hunt.

Nunzio, I have to agree about the Memorabilia show. My brother and I went last year and were outta there in about 10 minutes as there just weren't many people selling their wares.

How about you guys lining up to praise Phil and Co. for that wonderful piece on Jim Nicoll? It seems to me that every time ND farts, you guys want to whack them. Maybe if you acknowledge the amazing work Phil and his staff do, you might be taken seriously when you have a gripe.

I praise all of the efforts of the ND staff,and I know there were alot of late nights at Indy to get the DD done on time. It was just one perk that the fans at Indy got to enjoy,and It will be missed.

Only Printers like you and I would even think of that Jim! But your right, overnighting that stuff to print 15-20,000 of those every night had to be very costly!
