Gee, and I thought you were gonna talk about Capps and Gray getting out the scuba gear for Hagen to aid in his quest for the countdown. Ten out of 11 good runs until Hagen is in the other lane. Straight up racing??

and why would they dive this week and not last week? In the 2nd round almost every car smoked the tires in the same lane Johnny was in and if you know Johnny Gray you would know that there is no way in hell he would throw a race for anyone.

Hagan didn't repeatedly talk about not being "that guy". A year from now we'll all be trying to remember who Courtney beat for her first win, but everyone will know who Erica beat for hers.

This is really getting old, and smelling worse and worse as it ages.

I see your join date is in 2008. Therefore I can understand you don't remember Steve Johnson doing his promotional "if I let a girl beat me the other guys in the class will never forgive me". Yes, he used the term "girl". Often. Steve is absolutely not that kind of person but he does know what will make good copy.

No, I don't remember who it was that Angelle defeated for her first win. But I will guarantee you that she had enough sense not to pose for a photo in front of that team's trailer. I'm sure she wouldn't have done it even if George had asked her and he would never ever ask.

I am not denigrating Erica for doing so. Considering her career thus far with everything she's been through, I can see why she might be disposed to keeping a sponsor as happy as possible.

Can't we just celebrate a racer's success without trying to demonize the man who insulted that poor little girl? I'm beginning to think it's as basic as that.

Johnny doesn't have to throw anything. He's just in the car pushing on the pedal. The crew decides whether or not it will smoke the tires.

Excuse me, but someone else brought up the Erica/Greg photo thing, and I merely answered. And I've been around drag racing since the late 60s, thank you.

congrats the the gorgeous ms courtney! great win, and loved how john was wired for it, very classy of don shumacher to come over and congradulate john.

Agree with that! I didn't know Don and John had mended fences
that well. I do remember Tasca and Tped were in Tascas car and at his insistance, Tped talked to John after Indy 09... I think....
As far a Johnny Gray, he was SO PISSED after qualifying #1 and having the
Leahy device kick out his chutes, I don't see him laying down for ANYONE.
I don't believe Don works that way. And if I'm worth a Billion $$$$, ain't NOBODY gonna set my car up to smoke em on purpose...

Also, with the points the way they are, I don't see John giving it to Courtney
either. Did he do it for Robert, sure, but he was in and he wanted ALL his cars
in. He needs every point he can get now.

As an aside, he did say when Ashley wants to come back, she will have a car.
Does anyone else kinda feel that was a retirement thing? I'd hate to see him
yank Neff out again...

Also, spoke w/ a guy working with Brittany on the Dragster @ 66. A well
known tuner and he told me Brittany is even MORE focused than the other
daughters. It really surprised me. Anyone remember the TV show when they were eating dinner and John finds out Brittany wants to be a teacher?
Friggin guy almost had a stroke right at the table! It was like he couldn't comprehend it...
Also, I THINK brittany has been 3.84.... can anyone confirm that number?
Cause... its pretty damn good...

When John gets excited like that, he'll hug anyone.

QUOTE]

Mike is one of my favorite drivers but I would love to see him back as a tuner only. I think his driver would win the championship that year.

Well, because they openly dive. In those stats you quoted I don't see a .200 reaction time and I don't see a car driving directly to the wall and out of the groove. (Indy 2009) I am just happy Courtney earned her first win and didn't get it because someone went into the tank for her (like Atlanta 2008).

Did John dive? Probably...but can you 100% prove it? Are you such an expert on driving a nitro funny car that you can say something didn't happen to cause the car to drive out of the groove? It seems pretty suspicous to me when two higher qualified teammates both smoke the tires allowing a teammate that isn't in the countdown to advance to the final...just sayin'

Whether you like or hate the Forces, or for that matter DSR, I would hope that the inner heart of a driver would only be satisfied with the emotion of a first win if it comes straight up! Heads up!

Hope it was for the young kiddo.

NAPA Funny Car RULZZZZZZZ!

Please, Stevie Wonder could see the dive in Indy 2009. If you are going to dive you don't cut a good light and keep it in the groove. Capps didn't smoke the tires until further down track, which again isn't a good way to throw a race especially if the car intended to win has issues. Force had a terrible light and went dead right at 100ft, someone with Force's experience doesn't get out of the groove that early (if something was on the tire the move to the wall would have been more sudden/violent).

Good or bad, it sure looked like the boss told the crewchiefs to make sure Hagan won..I'm sure neither Capps or Gray knew anything about the tuneup call in their cars...but it sure seemed odd that both cars smoked the tires against Hagan...coincidence? I think not...

Yeah, DSR is one of a few teams (MLR also comes to mind) who actually races heads up. Outside of Seattle 2004 ish, that is the only time DSR threw a race and since then they have raced heads up and there's nothing obvious (like John in Indy 2009) proving otherwise.

if they did then more power to them, sometimes you have to look at the big picture do what you need to do, however unpleasant it may be...(even if some fans seem to get their undies in a bunch over it)
