The Mainstream media covers the events with the broadest interest, they usually don't cover bull riding, gymnastics or balloon racing. It is estimated there are less than 1 Million fans of drag racing in a country of 318 million residents. Compare Indy 500 ratings on ABC to US Nationals coverage on ESPN2. If a driver is killed or a spectator is injured, the coverage and media interest will skyrocket, just a fact of life.
Drag racing is a fun and very competitive sport with passionate fans, just not very many... unless a woman driver takes off her clothes.
