Just watched a part of an interview that Joe Rogan had with Infectious Disease Expert Michael Osterholm on youtube a couple day ago. I know I commented earlier about this being overblown, but after watching the 15 minute clip (part of an hour and a half program), I will recant somewhat on my earlier comments. It's become apparent that the public is only getting fear, gloom and doom from the mainstream media, instead of intelligent, educational and forward thinking info that is discussed during the interview. Best comment I've read so far. I watched the video and I too will be taking this a little more seriously. In my other posts my jabs were making fun of the media, not the disease.

Coronavirus has been around for decades...however, the Covid-19 is a newer strand. Its probably been around for years also, but was identified and named back in December.

Bill Maher summed it up like this:
“The way they talk about it on the news…They make it sound like if you’re within six feet of anyone who has it, just get your affairs in order,” Maher said.
As of Saturday, more than 3,000 people have died from the pandemic worldwide, including 17 people in the United States, according to the Washington Post. Maher listed off statistics of “the regular flu” and claimed that 517 people have died from it “this season” in California and 61,000 died from it last year.
“If that was on TV every day, I’d assume we’d be freaking out,” he said. “People die. That’s what happens in life…Y2K was going to end the world and the fires in Kuwait were going to end the world and the BP oil spill was going to end the world, and every other f—ing flu we’ve ever had. And it didn’t.”
Yes, it's a serious disease and I hope I don't get it. But he's right about the news media. Give it a couple of weeks and they'll find something else to get people worked up over and this virus will have lived out
it's "15 minutes of fame".

Normally, I wouldn't give a plugged nickel for Maher's opinion. But, every once in a while, he says something that makes perfect sense, like I think he did here.

I think people are getting educational and forward thinking info but unfortunately (like everything in life) people want to inject opinion into the matter. It certainly doesn't help when Rush Limbaugh tells low information voters that the virus is akin to the common cold and that it's a media conspiracy to make Donald Trump look bad. Or when Bernie Sanders tells low information voters that President Trump is not doing enough and everyone should get free money. These types of people are scum because the time used to make their political point could have been time used to provide factual information about the issue.

I'm neither a supporter or detractor of the President and his administration, but I do think they are doing the best they can with the info they have. Did the CDC get caught with its pants down here? It appears so but we all have to realize this has the potential to be a once in a generation (or lifetime) type of event.

You've said a mouthful here Dennis. I normally don't go in for conspiracy theories with anything involving the government (the JFK assassination is my only exception), but where can someone find facts about the coronavirus without some talking head injecting their opinion? I do not watch any news channels. Every one of them has their own agenda, and every "newscaster" thinks their opinion is the only one that matters.
Forget anything said by any politician. They each have their own personal agenda.
It's too bad there are not more journalists like Walter Cronkite, David Brinkley or Chet Huntley out there anymore.
I really like Lester Holt but, as I said earlier, every news channel has an agenda.
It's times like this that the American people should be given only facts, not opinions.

It's not really news anymore, it's entertainment. Too many news outlets exercising FUD, battling over who gets the most viewers and how many different ways can you say the same thing.
That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it.

I do not believe this started out as a political move but now that they have taken control with minimal push back they will do this every time something happens.
Each time a few less people will be able to come back from the "crisis" and bam socialism..........

to stop the spread. the almost full closure wuhan appears to have began showing positive effects.

My go to guy that I trust is Bill O'Rielly. I like his no nonsense approach and his books are great to read.

Gino, I used to watch O'Reilly every night when he was on Fox. That is, until November 2002. I don't want to get into the subject matter but he had a guest on who presented his case very calmly and laid out nothing but facts. O'Reilly got really mad at the guy and berated him for several minutes. The guy stayed calm and it drove O'Reilly nuts. He eventually cut him off. So, I sent O'Reilly a "pithy" note criticizing his actions. The next night, when O'Reilly typically read and responded to viewers' letters, he said he had been flooded with emails disagreeing with him. He said everybody who disagreed with him was wrong and did not read a single response. I have not watched him ever since that night. The fact he ended up getting let go from Fox several years later, to me, was a just reward.
