Bob, I just wanted to say how much I appreciate and enjoy your pictures. I just wish I would have taken the time to take pictures and the forethought to keep them back in the day when we were living the life. They bring back so many memories of a time when my bigest concern was making it to the next track and having enough nitro to make a pass. Thanks again and keep them coming.

Speaking of taking chances....

Anyone remember the Pollution Packer hydrogen peroxide rocket car? I actually saw it run at Kearney Dragway in Kearney, NE two different times in the 70s. What an experience....silence, then the peroxide hits the catalyst and ka boom! We're under way! If I remember correctly, the car went 344 mph somewhere in the southwest in the early 70s (74 maybe?) Quite a show. Always liked the rocket cars better than the jet cars.

Yeah, I remember the "Pollution Packer". I saw the "American Dream" run at Milan right after I returned from my hitch in PACAF. Musta been June 1974...Dave Anderson was the shoe of the "Pollution Packer" and Dave was killed at Charlotte Motor Speedway in 1974 while making a pass. His brother Vern was the "pilot" of the "American Dream". The owner, Jerry Hehn was killed testing at a GRAVEL PIT in Peewaukee, Wisconsin in 1977 while Vern watched. The rocket dragsters went mid 4's at 325 plus in the seventies and killed alot of people...

I saw the POLLUTION PACKER run at the Spring Natls in Columbus Ohio...must have been ......mid seventys???
I Can't recall ET or MPH, but the ET was unreal at that time. Prehaps someone can track the info down.

OCIR used to have a huge rocket and jet show. Saw them all there.
Last year at the ManCup all motorcycle race in Bradenton Fl, Frenchman Eric Tubel ran 5:12 ET on his rocket motorcycle. Over a half second quicker than any piston engine bike has run.

Obviously, I had to check the facts before I posted #229. 40 years will certainly taint one's memory. To see one of these dragsters make a pass in the seventies was mind blowing...

Saw Russell Mendez in the Free Spirit run over 300 in the early 70's. Also remember a John Paxson or something like that. Rocket cars were damn fast!

Sammy Miller ran the Santa Pod dragway in 3.58 seconds at 386.26 mph in 1984

Hydrogen Peroxide rocket? Is that the all time quickest quarter mile from a dead stop record? How come nobody has tried to beat it? I realize it must be banned or something, but some crazy millionaire could construct something and pay off a drag strip to time it... for the fortune and glory of being the quickest man alive on the quarter mile.

Kitty O'Neil went 3.22 at 392.54 mph on July 7,1977 on a quarter mile strip laid out at El Mirage.
Dragster's name was the "Rocket Kat" I believe this pass took the record away from Dave Anderson.
Win the lottery and get ahold of Ky Michaelson. He is the guy behind many of these rockets...
