Compton says no to lower ticket prices!

“As opposed to reducing ticket prices, I believe NHRA needs to creatively work with event sponsors to develop promotional ticket campaigns to drive traffic to sponsor locations and products in exchange for discounted access to the event,” said the NHRA president.

The only creative people at NHRA are the guys who make patterns in the greasesweep during cleanup....

“In addition, NHRA needs to better communicate and promote the current value we offer when attending an event. Relatively speaking, our prices are still very competitive in comparison to other motorsports and entertainment choices faced by the consumer. We are the only major motorsports that affords fans a pit pass with every ticket and a carnival-like atmosphere at an event that is second to none.”
But what if there are no cars in those pits to start with?

Admittedly a good point made by Compton (man, that about killed me just to say it), followed by a much better point by Mr. Thomas.

Well put, Martin.

Thanks for the link .. Michael is one of my favorite motorsports writers.

After reading that, I think I have come to the conclusion that Tom's brain has dropped a cylinder.

I can't say I'm surprised, disappointed yes, but not surprised. maybe he knows something we don't and there will be full fields and large crowds. I tend to think after a couple of races they will have to rethink their strategy. Although he does claim pushing people to sponsor locations for promotions. Its a bit broad but who knows.

Interesting I was contacted by email today by a track wanting to tell me about their promotion for their national event. I'm thinking cool, maybe some dicsount tickets or something. Nope, I can buy now but they wont hit the credit card for 2 months.
Not really much of a promotion as far as cost savings, whcih is what I am looking for now. Especially IF the show is going to be smaller

Surprise, Got a letter in the mail on Wednesday from VMP to renew my tickets for October, saying that my seats go out for general sale if I don't renew before March 3rd... not really bad pricing $123 & change for all three days... but not really in the first of the year budget, if you know what I mean... and k'dubs hasn't decided if he wants to go on Friday yet, or not...

trying to decide what I might be able to afford 10 months from now? real sweet...

Got my letter from VMP today, wanting $756.00 for trackside camping and GA tickets. And Bruton wants my money for Bristol at the end of this month. A lot to bite off at one time, but I don't want to lose my RV spots at either track. Gotta dig under these sofa cushions for some spare change.

Murdock.

All I know is I must have lucked out. We get to pay 7 bucks less than last year for qualifying. Payed 57 last year only 50 this year!

heck, it might be worth it to rent 'Floor' space from you, that will at least save me gas running back and forth... hummmm might even bring my ball....

Ill be at Bristol again this year! Hey when it rains can i come up lol. it never rains in Bristol haha/

I am comforted by the knowledge that in 2009 I'll be able to walk up to a ticket booth, buy just about any seat I want, secure in the knowledge that this is the last year for the NHRA as we know it. The new NHRA will be owned and operated successfully by the Bruton Smith family. It has to happen. Yep, I think the NHRA is about to be "owned"! It's about time!

Would you rather sell 10,000 tickets at $50ea or 50,000 tickets at $10ea?

I know what I would rather.

Darr's signature says it all.... THE EMPTY SEAT DOESN'T BUY A HOTDOG.... or tshirt, or $7 beer.

50,000 people talking to 5 of their friends is a lot great word of mouth coverage than 10,000 people talking to 5 of their friends.

Some people can't see the forest for the trees!

its bad enough the tickets are still the same money for watching shorter races (1,000ft). now with possibly short fields, we seriuosly might have 8 car top fuel fields, funny car who knows, and pro stock will fill fields but with big names on the sidelines, the bottom 8 will be a tenth off , the crowds will be smaller, when that happens i think ticket prices will come down but who knows with the NHRA.

We'll be in the RV area up on the hill next to the Sharpie sign. One thing that we're not going to do this year is get tickets for the Thunder Valley Club. It's great if you don't have an RV, but we can save a bundle of $$. We already have the RV stocked with food, and the view from the crows nest on the pit side is really cool.

Now, if I could just get Hammer up on the hill with me. ;):)
