So since California mandated these P.I.T.A. headsets, I've noticed that the battery in my phone doesn't last as long. Is this normal becuase of the Bluetooth usage???
I never understood the *****ing and moaning (Calling headsets a P.I.T.A, for example) of having to wear headsets while driving. It's a small price to pay in order to decrease your risk of getting into a accident.

Because they ARE! Trust me, if you're yakking away on a cell phone while driving..just because you have a headset on is NOT going to decrease your chances of having an accident...distractions are distractions.

Alan. I'm glad you brought that up.I have noticed my cell phone battery died rather quick when I plugged my P.I.T.A. Bluetooth headset in, I thought my battery was going bad.I still refuse to wear mine outside of my truck walking around talking to myself, hell I look crazy enough as it is without walking around mumbling to myself.I do not like it, but I dislike a $114.00 ticket even more.

It's always funny to see people talking on their headsets, makes them look like they're going nuts. Especially when they're walking around in the supermarket just jabbering away.

Sam, That's exactly the reason I won't wear mine out side of my truck.I also cannot stand when people are talking on a phone in a store,I'm sorry but you are not that important, finish your call THEN go into the store.
I'm not saying anything for or against headsets but I do have a cute story:
One of our constituents in the land business is a multi-billion-air and very well known world wide, among investors. We were in his office when he made a blanket statement that cracked us all up. He said "You'll never see anyone important wearing one of those things."
I do understand they are now mandated in some states while driving. I had a phone in my '76 Cadillac and ever since and I have not experienced any close calls due to phone use but I see some almost every day who I wish would follow Cheryl's advice and just "hand up and drive."
All our vehicles now are newer GM cars with OnStar phones and they are all hands free. I really like them better than my hand held when in traffic.

Alan, one thing that helps mine last a little longer is to actually turn off the ear piece when I am not using it. It's faster than disconnecting the Bluetooth through the handset and will reconnect almost right away when you turn it back on. If your phone battery is more than a year old, it may need replaced. I only charge mine about every other day. I do a lot more texting than talking though.

Because it does NOTHING to solve the problem. The problem isn't holding the thing to your ear and driving one-handed (plenty of amputees do it daily, for example), the problem is distracted driving. You can be distracted by eating, smoking, texting, reading, emailing, talking to someone in the car, tuning the radio, adjusting the a/c, discipling your child, looking at the scenery, trying to find an address number on the street, and on and on -- oh, and talking on a cell phone. These laws are a silly band-aid on the real problem of driving distracted.
Concerning the first post on this thread, I was trying to figure out "What do the people for the ethical treatment of animals have to do with hands free cell phones?" LOL, wrong PETA/PITA. I'm thinking "What, they're concerned about distracted drivers hitting animals now so they've passed more west coast communism laws that will eventually make their way east?"
I'm figuring bluetooth use must be p*ssing off the crazy people! So much for them having an identity when all these OTHER people are walking around, appearing to be talking to themselves! Maybe it scares them! We thought they were crazy when it turns out they were just good management material!
I walk around with this underlying desire to walk up to strangers and say "You have a bug on your ear. Let me get that for ya." and smack it!
