If I am looking at the correct info he is now in the field. It was reported that on the only run he made he was light at the scale ? I don’t understand this weight stuff. To me it seems like a black and white issue - if a car is light the run should be thrown out, and if the car is not light the run should count.

I was wondering about that. There were only 16 cars. Could he have taken a green then backed off the line in the final session? I don’t think he did.

This is a weird one. I know the rule is you have to take the tree to be placed on the ladder. I remember talking to Terry Totten a couple years ago because he was planning a one and done qualifying hit at a race where only 16 cars showed up but he crossed the centerline so he said he had to make another attempt because he said he would not have qualified. A couple years ago in Vegas Rob Passey came up in Q4 having not made an attempt and had a fuel leak and did not take the tree and did not qualify and #1 got a bye so I am guessing Jim will not qualify since his only pass got DQ'd

In my opinion this should be one of those gray area rules and I believe Jim should have a spot tomorrow since he did make a pass (even though it was DQ'd) and instead of a single tomorrow it gives the fans a two car race.

I did not see the damage so I dont know how bad it was but I was also wondering why they did not pull up and at least take the tree. There was a racer in Top Sportsman in Seattle last year that hit the wall in the shutdown area after winning a round and just so happened to have a bye the next round and he took the tree with the front nose pretty beat up.

Another question I have is if they are not qualified and since they technically did not make a pass, do they get the $7500 for making an attempt? If not that is salt in the wound for them.

well I cant wait to hear NHRA's ruling on this...
I dont think anyone will object unless he wins E1

Campbell did not make a legal pass, so he is not on the ladder for E1.

Odd, back in 2009, Todd Simpson showed up at the Virginia Nats, with 15 cars...did not make a pass and was put on the ladder. He who owns the sandbox makes the rules :)

Watched the TV show. It showed the car after the accident & the front part of the body was bent up. What they said on the TV show was that Campbell staged the car on the Q that was tossed. So altho the run was DQ, the fact that he staged gave him a Q run with no time. So he was allowed to run Rd 1. The car looked like it had been fixed but evidently they could not start it for Rd 1. So the team did get Rd 1 loser $.

Alan did say say too feel free to call him an idiot about not being aware of the new rule. And Austin Coil texted him a beautiful poem that went something like (Congratulations, you're an idiot) so I wasn't being mean or anything. Just an FYI. Not sure Alan even has a fax..... Cool they changed the rule however. Bummer bumper deal.

The policy forever was that you had to make a legal run to be put on the ladder. Taking the tree and shutting off is a legal run. Hitting the wall, crossing the centerline, or a technical DQ (weight, fuel, etc.) is not a legal run and you would not be added.

The policy was changed because it shorts the fans of racing if we have cars are the property that are not allowed to run causing bye runs. The new policy states that any car making an "Attempt" would be added to the ladder if there are 16 cars or less. Jim did make an attempt, so he was added.

And the idiot announcer didn't know the policy had been changed, I wasn't the only one as you can see by the original ladders showing just 15 cars, but I do pride myself on knowing the rules, so you can all blame me if you want. I did learn something, and next time will know it.

The real story makes so much more sense than all the conjecture, super funny, and reminiscient of the early 2000's pro drag racing..keep guessing though, its entertaining
