Bye Runs

They both earned races against the two worst qualifying drivers in the first round....as they would if there were a full field.

BUT, there have been bye runs when there weren't full fields before. Why is it different now? What's fair is fair. I do not agree with this AT ALL, and I'm not a particular fan of either driver. I'm a Dixon fan. However, I still believe Brittany and Leah deserve bye runs.

14 is an even number, 7 pair in the first round. Whoever wins the race between the 1st and 14th qualifier, gets a bye in Round 2 when there will be 7 cars left.

It's SUPPOSED TO BE A 16 CAR FIELD!! .... The NHRA broke their own rules and made it a 14 car field. The bye runs should be in the FIRST round. Okay, I'm done. I'll take my meds now.

Okay, I'm watching qualifying now and the same thing is happening in PSM. They mentioned that changing to a 14 car field IS within the NHRA rules. My bad. I still don't agree though.

I had to ask, but there are ladders for many different amounts of qualified competitors. There is a 14 car ladder, and it's being used, as written, this weekend.

Can someone PULEEZE explain to me why Brittany and Leah don't have bye runs? THEY EARNED IT.

if you go to the NHRA 2015 RULEBOOK and look under Race Procedures Section 2 Page 5, it clearly states that in situations where the field is not filled, such as 14 cars for a 16 car field, a 14 CAR LADDER WILL BE USED, NOT A 16 CAR LADDER. Blows all the conspiracy theory's when its actually written in ink. :)

sorry i still agree with lee......google search '14 team single elimination bracket'.....1st round = 6 pair and 2 byes.
nhra does it their way.....can't wait till it happens again and the #1Q loses in first round to #14Q who just happens to be in
second place in points and overtakes #1 in points by way of 2nd round bye.......mite be a few posts on here if that happened.

Thanks Jeff for taking the time out to write. I'm humbled. I still don't agree with the rules, but if anyone would know them, it would be an experienced nitro driver such as yourself. Hope to see you on the track soon. :)

Lee and Mike, I'm not sure if you guys follow sportsman racing that much, but NHRA (and other drag racing organizations) has been doing this for years. If there are not enough cars to fill out the ladder, then the ladder is modified to accommodate the cars that did qualify. Comp eliminator qualifies a 32 car field. At Maple Grove, 13 cars qualified. So by your logic, in a 32 car bracket, all 13 would have been given a first round bye. Then in the second round, another 3 would have been given a bye. Stock and Super Stock qualify a maximum 128 car field. If only 70 cars show up, you think the top 58 qualified cars should be given a first round bye because they earned it? It's no different in the pro classes. 16 car field but if only 10 cars qualify, they're going to match those 10 cars up, 1 vs 10, 2 vs 9, and so on. They're not going to give out 6 first round byes.

Here is a link to a site with pretty much all the ladders that could possibly be used. If there is a short field in the future, pro or sportsman, you'll know exactly how they're going to ladder them up.

Sorry everyone, I know we're trying to let this topic die, but I thought some people would be interested in the link with all of the ladders.

well there ya' have it.....thanks frank.....yes, i have seen plenty of sportsman brackets......and yes, that's a really good link.
just questioned a 16 car field less one and two cars; haven't had a 14 car sunday in quite some time, it was unique.....now i know
the nhra way and will never question again......printing off the 12 & 13 car brackets so i'll know how to fill them out.

we can finally put this one to bed?
