Bye-Bye, MOPAR!

As a lifelong Mopar fan & drag racer, I followed P/S from the start. They (Chrysler) pulled out in the weight break era, never getting a fair shake from NHRA. I still followed P/S . Then came Bob Glidden's Plymouth, then the Wayne County guys at a time when Chrysler was doing poorly & gave the Mopar fans hope. Even before that, I still loved the class. But you had Chevy, Ford, Olds,Pontiac even AMC running. (At least there was some variety)
After Allen Johnson either retires or gets timed out (w/ the Dart body he's running) it will be the Pro Stock Camaro class. If fan interest gets any lower, you have to know NHRA will pull the plug (remember P/S Truck?) With this great (?) Fox Network (NHRA produced) shows they practically ignore P/S & P/S Motorcycle. And with the F.I. & rpm limiters made it even more expensive to compete (a number of races didn't have full fields) How much longer will there be a Pro Stock class?

the Imperial has a 440, the Polara has a Magnum 5.9 (360) with Hughes EFI intake and cam and 4speed auto trans, the 300M is just plain fast (and a tad too low for NJ roads):)

That is really cool, the guy I sold the Cuda to, a numbers matching car, disassembled it and put the drivetrain into s Challenger shell. I wanted to cry.

They called the Omni a Challenger one year, didn't they? 74 or so
Like lots of guys here I grew up at the tail end of the muscle car era (early to mid '70's) and I can think of lots of muscle car horror stories. One guy bought a brand-new '69 1/2 440 six-pack/ 4 speed Super Bee with the lift off hood, street and strip raced it for a couple years, then sold it for a whopping $1800 to a guy who wrapped it around a tree. It had less than 30K miles on it. My next door neighbor was killed in his nearly new '68 Charger after a night of drinking with the boys. It seems like every weekend the local tow companies had a neat Camaro, Mustang or Mopar towed in after a nasty accident. My wife has a '69 427 Corvette and I have a '68 Mustang fastback that were both one owner cars when we got them, and I think the only reason they survived is that they were both owned by women!

Hopefully Charlie Wescott is finding the needed H.P. to be the Lone Ford out there without the manufacturer's money.
According Charlie on classracer.com he has found some power and has had some encouraging results in limited testing. He intends to start the season earlier this year than last. We REALLY need the brand diversity in PS. I have zero interest in watching Camaro eliminator - this season was bad enough. With only one full time 'other brand' (AJ's Mopar) 2017 is shaping up to be torturous.

it's that there's all that tonnage with 6 foot long nose and 100 inch long quarters ...all that luxury for the comfort of 2 people :D

There was a local family here that had a big shed full of them, used them for demo derbys, until they were banned. They were pretty upset about that. I heard they were forced to dump them for cents on the dollar.
