Sunday night.
Two senior counterterrorism officials confirmed that bin Laden was killed in Pakistan last week. One said bin Laden was killed in a ground operation, not by a Predator drone. Both said the operation was based on U.S. intelligence, and both said the U.S. is in possession of bin Laden's body.
Officials long believed bin Laden, the most wanted man in the world, was hiding a mountainous region along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border.
The officials spoke on the condition of anonymity in order to speak ahead of the president.
The development comes just months before the tenth anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks on the World Trade Centers and Pentagon, orchestrated by bin Laden's al-Qaida organization, that killed more than 3,000 people.
The attacks set off a chain of events that led the United States into wars in Afghanistan, and then Iraq, and America's entire intelligence apparatus was overhauled to counter the threat of more terror attacks at home.
Al-Qaida organization was also blamed for the 1998 bombings of two U.S. embassies in Africa that killed 231 people and the 2000 attack on the USS Cole that killed 17 American sailors in Yemen, as well as countless other plots, some successful and some foiled.

Pakistan Military was protecting him. Quick action by the worlds leading military force kept them from trying to interfere. The Great Whites are feasting on him now.

half a day has passed here in the US since the big annoucement and
still no pictures?......you're (my gov't.) going to come on my TV on a sunday
night and tell me you've shot bin laden at point blank range and you have
no proof?, only a story?
late sunday nite news - have seen it before; last christmas eve and congress
was voting around midnight to slam a portion of obamacare through.......
and they did!
washington politicians capable of many things.
more proof please.

osama bin laden is the most common enemy linked to 9/11 and al queda;
the ability to announce his death may be a key to ending our occupation
in the afghanistan/pakistan region - we are spending trillions on a conflict
that can not be won; why not bring some of that money home to be spent
on programs such as social security, health costs and infrastructure?
unless bin laden suddenly surfaces in another video tape, think it's safe
to say he's dead, whether killed 10 years ago or yesterday.
just hope another sinister enemy doesn't arrise against the USA to replace
bin laden..........i'm fearful of that.

I wouldn't think the military would do something like that without the approval, or direct orders, from commander-in-chief.
I really want to believe the way it has been presented but I am very leery of a politician whose approval numbers are as low as the re-election cycle is just starting, has a history of misleading the populace, and who recently put out an "official" certification that appears to have been modified which in most areas is considered fraud/forgery.
Time will tell but I have a sense that something is missing or incorrect.

I don't think Obama has the B==LS or the Backbone to attempt manipulation of our Military. Now getting someone to forge a document so he can trick his supporters in believing he has a right to be President of this great country, yeah.

same here paul - too much to speculate and i too would like to believe the
chain of events reported from sunday.
funny though that we've witnessed so many 'fair trials' with other captured
terror suspects (practically in disbelief why they were even offered a
fair trial)..........and now we just shoot & kill bin laden?
maybe too dangerous for the CIA to let him stand trial - he'd have the CIA
implicated up to their eyeballs for events 20-30 years ago.

A whole generation has come of age in a world where the USA is in a constant state of war. This generation does not remember the world in which the USSR existed. This generation knows a world where the Patriot Act and the many other moves by the federal government have eroded the democratic rights of citizens and non-citizens alike. That mainstream bourgeois discourse sees the debate of torture and assassination, even of US citizens, as standard fair. The wealthy rulers of this country and the two parties that represent their interests have wreaked massive economic chaos and misery on millions at home and billions abroad, not to even go into the slaughter that the many wars that continue to this day. Now as the rulers look to stabilize the economy on the backs of working people and the poor, as they send us to kill and die around the globe, they want us to celebrate the killing of Osama bin Laden?! September 11th was a horrific crime, but it is only one drop of blood in the sea that the American rulers have drawn. I cry no tears for bin Laden, but nor do I take any joy in seeing the racist rulers of this country take any "victories".

I would think that the first statement of any American Patriot would be praise for the brave AMERICAN SOLDIERS who brought this 10 year manhunt to an end. The fact that one President could declare that Bin Laden would be brought to justice and the duly elected predecessor completes the task 10 years later certainly says alot about the reslove of American Justice.
