I love the 4-wheel-drive owners who show off by going too fast on slick streets - what they don't take into consideration is that 4WD helps you get going but doesn't help you stop. Crunch!

I'm staying inside - hopefully nobody will take out the poles with power or cable TV on them.

Tomorrow will be bad here in Austin from what the weather reports say! I go to work at 5:30am so we have a phone number we call to tell us to report or not. I wouldnt be suprised even with all the weather reports and closing going on if we were still called in to work. Sure, driving on this stuff is scary, but other drivers are what really scare me! This really makes me appreciate what people farther north deal with on a regular basis. Plus, it REALLY makes me appreciate the Electric dept and what they have to deal with during ice storms!

Hey Kenny, is that the Alamo in your avatar? When we raced in San Antonio last year, we took a trip to see it. Also got to see a Hawk take a bird down right in front of it. Took a walk along the River Walk. We also ate at a great Mexican restaurant there too, called Mi Tierra Café. We had a really nice time in San Antonio.

Yes, it's the Alamo, We went last year for Cinco de Mayo, what a party, I saw the Spurs beat the Mavs at Mi Tierra in game 1 of the western confrence finals that weekend, another party:p

Hi Tim! We had a low of -11 and a high of -4 yesterday. Today is supposed to be a heat wave with a high of 9!

Hey Terry! Glad to see you are hanging in there...I know you have been without power for some time now. It is 26 right now and I believe the high is 29/30. The bad part is we are COVERED in ice and it is still falling. I can handle the snow, but the ice is a different story!!!

I can relate to the ice thing! Snow is no problem for us in Neb. We are used to it and know when to try to go and when not to. The ice is a whole different story. We now have roads with patches of ice left from the storm that are now covered with snow--they really can sneak up and bite you! But hey, I got power now!!!! So we're on the mend here in Nebraska--you take care down there with the ice--and be careful!

Well, they are all a bunch of lying bastages! We didn't have any sleet or freeze or anything....although it is hovering around 32. But now they are saying maybe this evening at drive time.

Hey, Kelly, if you need any frozen ANYTHING, let me know--we have plenty. True story--I just found the new Brut Revolution in my local store Friday. (things happen kinda slow in Nebraska y'know...) Anyway I forgot to take it in the house, and discovered it this morning in the sack--frozen and broken--put all the pieces and frozen matter in a ziplock and took it in the house to thaw and we'll go from there--I'll keep you posted on the experiment.

I am with you on that one Kelly!! My kids were so mad this morning, they thought they were gonna get another day off of school!!!

You're telling me! I was planning on a day of hooky from work, a few old movies, a good book......and maybe an adult beverage or two! ;)

its nice and sunny here in macomb IL at beautiful WIU.....problem is we had an ice storm two nights ago, 3 inches of snow last night, and right now it's 9 degrees with a windchill of -4.......what a way to start the new semester

Its starting to snow pretty good here now and the weather reports say our area is expecting nearly 4.5 inches of snow by tomorrow! Hopefully work will be cancelled early eneough where I can sleep in...we had to call work this morning at 4:30 only to be told to call back at 7:30...only to be told to call back at 9:00 to plan on being at work by 10:00:rolleyes: . They finally said stay home around 9:30.

Didn't think it snowed in Texas!!

Didn't think it snowed in Texas!!

Every couple of years we get a good snow storm...for Texas standards that is, nothing like up north. The bad thing is the city of Austin does there best to prepare roads, but they just dont have enough equiptment due to the fact that it isnt a regular issue to deal with. Here in Austin, they have built a bunch of new add-ons to current highways and most of the add-ons are fly-overs and upper deck highways. We just had a BUNCH of new sections of toll roads open up in the past 2 months, so the Highway Dept is stretched VERY thin right now!
Hopefully, everything will be back to normal here soon so I can get to work...my wife and I are ready to "kill each other" :p :D

It's been below freezing here in East Texas since late Sunday, lots of power lines down Yesterday, I went to Lowes in Henderson and finally bought a generator, our power was out from 10:00 am till' after 5:00 pm, it was nice to have heat and tv and both fridges running, I can even run the computer too. I will not be without power again, I've had enough.

Kenny,

Just be careful where the exhaust is pointed - every year carbon monoxide claims a few victims who are using portable generators to power their house during an outage.

The freezing rain got very close to Baytown, but so far has stayed about a mile north of my apartment. I just hope it moves on before I leave for the airport tomorrow.

no problem, it's under the carport, about ten ft. from the back of the house, right where the neighbors can hear it, but its pretty quiet in the house, just kidding, no actually it's not that loud. Todays forecast is bad, up to 2" of ice and snow, I should stay home but......I can make it.

Kenny, I feel your pain--I finally got power back and was able to loan my generator to a neighbor who doesn't have power back yet and had his generator toss a rod just about the time my power came back on. Guess sometimes things work out in weird ways, huh? Stay warm if you can, and hang in there! When it's over, expect to hear that generator humming for a couple of days even after it's been shut off! Take care, we Nebraskans are thinking of our Texas brethren!

***NEWSFLASH*** ITS 30 DEGREES AND TEXAS HAS SHUT DOWN DUE TO ARCTIC BLAST.

If you watched the news thats what you would think. Its like the end of the world or something. Its not even bad. I am on the south side of Houston and the north side is whats suppose to be bad but we have people calling into work not coming and then live within miles of me and I didnt see one sight of ice on my way in this morning.
