GARY SCELZI TO APPEAR ON WIND TUNNEL SUNDAY

FRESNO, Calif. (July 3, 2008) - Four-time NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series champion Gary Scelzi will appear on Wind Tunnel with Dave Despain this Sunday, July 6, on Speed Channel. The show airs live from 9-10 p.m. EST.

Scelzi, who drives the Mopar/Oakley Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car for Don Schumacher Racing, will participate in a discussion about track safety issues following Scott Kalitta's fatal accident in Englishtown, N.J., and on NHRA's recent decision to shorten the tracks as an interim step from 1320 feet to 1000 feet, beginning at the Mopar Mile-High NHRA Nationals in Denver July 11-13.

Viewers may call in questions to the show on 1-866-WTUNNEL or send an email to [email protected].

This is one of the reasons I pay the extra five a month to the cable people. Wind Tunnel and Pass Time. Dave should be on the NHRA event coverage and Paul Page should be in the wind.

GS is one of my favorites. Didn't here anything new from him on the interview tonight. Thought the comment on tire barriers in the shutdown area was interesting. Could this be effective? Not really the high tech solution I wanted to hear. Sounded like he didn't think a catch-net system was an affordable reality for most tracks. Anyone else get that impression?

What did he say?

He just said that he didn't think that in general PRO was a united front amongst the racers themselves.but he thinks that now NHRA and PRO might actually work together for a common good. I am sure I didn't state that perfectly but that was the gist of it. He did say that they ALL want to go back to 1320 if they can.And as far as the tire barrier goes ,I guess sometimes high technology isn't always best.

True, but it's been that way since '72.

I like what Gary said about remote shut offs.

Re: PRO, I think things will get better when Bernstein steps down.

Pretty good rumors- and I emphasize rumors - indicate things are not sweetness and light in his operations which may be taking away from his leadership capability AND - with the most lucrative ( at least two car), sponsorship in the sport- he, like Force, IMHOP, has leaned towards NHRA.

Yrs truly could get silly and recommend Shoemaker or Bill Miller for the job, but I won't.

Like Scelzi says, PRO needs to show more unity.

I have asked many people for years, who is on the PRO board and who are it's members, and the only answer I ever get is; That's a good question!!

Can anyone link me to a site that lists these members and their title's in the Organization?!

It's almost like I'm not even supposed to ask this question.

If it works who cares how High tech it is? I think Water barriers would work just as well.
